BT to offer faster speeds

Will be nice when it reaches me over here, im currently on the option 3 package, and im experiencing severe throttling at peak time.:(

BT Retail have been offering connections via 21CN for long enough. Nice of the Torygraph to finally notice.

i dont understand why they bothered to upgrade to 21CN....if they are not going to provide it to their own customers. i mean it make sense to offer the 20meg speed to your own customers, rather than just wholesale to enta providers

Smells like a story fed to them by a PR firm.

21CN is about a lot more than 20meg broadband.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came from BT PR, but it wouldn't take more than a quick Google to turn up all the reports of ISPs doing stuff with 21CN for ages.

Like they did? BT Retail were on the 21CN trial as well...

You're mixing up the separate divisions of BT as well. Think of BT Wholesale as being a separate company to BT the ISP, Openreach who own the copper pairs etc.

I hope to god I fall under an area where the exchange is being upgraded, tired of my ~2mbps connection :(, glad its "free".

yeah your right. I think im confusing it with OpenReach.

tbh. They need to stop with this tideous **** and start rolling out VDSL2 over fibre to cabinet on mass scale. rather than trial and implementing it in the sheep shagger areas. whats the point of upgrading exchange in the woods of sherwood forest. whats the benefit of it being used there. roll it out in big cities like manchester, london etc

thats because they are using copper wiring. it distorts as the distance increase the speed drops.

and if they implemented vdsl2 over existing copper. you would probably on see a slight increase to 20meg.

they just need to start rolling out fibre

I'd like fibre too, but i got what they give me soooo, does anyone know what this means in relation to better speeds? Will i need to wait years or..?

Wait years for what exactly? You can already get 21CN WBC, so the ADSL2+ BT Wholesale service is already available to you as well as whatever LLUers you have.

Bit of a noob with these things :(, so I should get bumped up just by contacting them and renewing for 12 months. I shouldn't need to wait the weeks it said in that article because its already done in my area?

Soon as my contract is off I am leaving them for sure, dont care what they say, my line has been a pain in the butt ever since I switched. They would have to do something really dramatic to make me wanna stay, because right now I am so ****ed at my speed sometimes.

As far as ive herd, they`ll be starting to trial fiber optic this summer as well.

It's still a trial AFAIK. Enta are putting customers on it now though, and so were AAISP.

Though if you're only getting 2Mbps you're unlikely to gain anything from ADSL2+.

unfortunately it will make sod all difference to me unless they first manage to upgrade the actual phone line connection i have into the exchange :(.
