BT to offer faster speeds

The move has been applauded by technology experts, who say BT could help transform the internet market, making ultra-fast internet the norm rather than the exception.

Whoever wrote that needs a dry slap.

Honestly, I would pay BT more for the service if iy comes true, but I dont wanna get put throught to India anymore, been wanting to call em for days now because my net has been disconnecting but its so awful, they try to bully you over the phone. Remeber when they said my line was faulty so they would get an engineer onto it, after 3 visits my dad got a letter through the post asking for £200 O.O If they fix their customer service and general BS I would gladly pay em more for decent bb.

Just checked our email and we have a call-back arranged from BT regarding our bb package for this evening - be interesting to see if they could sort us out with an upgrade!

you wouldn't want to live where i live if you won't fast speeds

I'm already on the ADSL2+ package... and its pretty naff really... headlining 20Mbit speed - but even with a 6Mbit sync I rarely see more than 3.5Mbit unless I'm on at 4am - when it magically jumps to 5.5mbit - and despite being on option 3 (not the basic package) iplayer and other video streaming is throttled to ~750kbit/s all evening. Also quite often get throttled to 1Mbit/s between 6pm and midnight for all traffic on random days.

Well that's our connection upgrade sorted - going over to the >8mbps and should get near enough 8mbps and then I was told that our connection can support up to 16mbps which we'll be able to get from November onwards apparently!!

But hey it'll be nice to move up to 8mbps for now :)

Today 20:35 854 kbps (107kB/s) 776 kbps (97kB/s)

Peak time test ^^ if it wasn't for the fact no one else around here can match BT for latency coupled with a lack of choice - I'd be off like a shot. Virgin must be so afraid of BT's "upto" 20Mbit.

Has your exchange achelly been upgraded and enabled for BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
ADSL2+ yet??? because if it has and what you say is correct, this must mean BT arn`t releasing ADSL2+ at all as expected and delaying it till November. If they where releasing it as planned this summer then you would be able to receive 16mb if your exchange is enabled for it.

Unless someone at BT you spoke to tell you a little white lie or not know what there talking about.

Theres a lot of mis-information within BT as to ADSL2+ - several CS people have been telling customers its available when it isn't... I was even offered it as an upgrade back in March by someone who got the wrong end of the stick...

Wholesale is in complete dissarray when it comes to 21CN and had to delay a lot of stuff - while I hear customers will be moved to ADSL2+ from the "end" of June I'll believe it when I see it. They are still making a huge mess of the migration from ECO to OneView with many customers moved to the WBC platform but CS and others still seeing the old ECO data - so a lot of problems end up in a loop or backed up in a non moving queue.

It's also a pity that OneView is a load of gash. Relying on one system for nigh on everything really isn't a smart idea imo, but who am I to say?

From my experience, if people knew basic troubleshooting before calling up their ISPs and realised that you can't just press a button to make it work again, then there would be a lot less stress all round. In reference to getting through to India, they all follow a diagnostic flow, so with a bit of common sense you could bypass 90% of the questions they ask you and trim your conversation with them down to an absolute minimum :)

I also lol'd at them bullying you over the phone... suck it up mate, be assertive :D

Well my info is 2nd hand, but from dealing with people in Ian Livingstones' team - there has been a lot of show stopping bugs in a system costing 10s of millions that should have been ironed out in early testing but are somehow present in a working production system.

I`m sure they definitely have it out now available for their business broadband customers, looking at their business broadband website, but not for their normal customers as yet.

Definitely. What is probably the most important system in daily use by front line advisors should never have problems, let alone have the niggling little annoyances that creep up every single day...

They do have it available for business customers, assuming your exchange has been upgraded and is ready to go. Residential customers will be able to start ordering sometime during the summer.
