I'm considering getting BT Unlimited, but I was just wondering how people already on this service would rate the speeds and the latency of pings while gaming?

I have been checking and I'm currently less than 3km from my exchange, which means my line will be roughly 3.5mbs (quoted from BT).

I'm just looking for a decent ISP with a decent connection for bits and bobs of downloading, but decent for gaming.

Cable is not a suggestion, as the congestion around my area is terrible, from 3pm - 12am speeds go from 4mb to <1mb and loads of packetloss, high pings and poor speeds.

LLU xDSL - Tiscali and Sky/Easynet.

Currently talking about going to Sky from Virgin Media, but was thinking about BT broadband and not Sky.

I dunno, i need some information! :(

Thanks.

Funnily enough I'm waiting for this very BT upgrade to kick in either today or tomorrow. If the thread's still ticking along I'll spam my opinion of it.

Not happy that they transfer the broadband monthly charge on to the phone bill though... It'll be a nasty surprise in three months time. :(

I would read into the bt unlimited thing as it won't be it will have a fup of some kind for sure, there is no true unlimited adsl connections now unless you pay a premium and go for business line.

All this looking for a new ISP around my area is stressing my brain.

Sky seems to look good, but so does BT.

Can anyone with either of these connections give me some info please?

Well considering all I do is mainly game, and occasional download files, mostly MP3 files, Unlimited seems a good option.

But more to the point, latency is the most important. Been reading up that BT users get a good pings.

What are people's experiences with NTL ? I've been using them for 4 years and their 4MB is unlimited and I always get the max speed possible. Am I lucky ?

Yes you are. From 12am - 3pm, I get no problems at all, speed is always at 4mb, pings low and no packetloss.

between 3pm - 12am, <1mb speeds, high pings and bad packetloss. Had endless phonecalls with them, and they seems to blame it on my PC all the time.

I know it's a bandwidth problem, but it makes the internet impossible to use at the times I can only use it.

Oh I'm sorry, enjoy your FUP'd, throttled BT Broadband.

Well if you have any useful information regarding the matter of my question, then all the help will be appreciated.

But you're not really helping when you say "move to sweeden". :(
