Hey guys...im trying to fix a problem for a friend but no ideas as to what to try next.

He's on bt broadband with a BT Voyager 220 router...this is a replacment router as BT told him the first one was faulty.

Ive connected all the router up fine and its connected via the ethernet not USB.

I was told the routers ip to configure it was 192.168.1.1 ....when i put this in to setup the router it does nothing and the spinning vista timer just keeps spinning round as though it cant connect.

Ive tried ipconfig and the default gateway is blank which is probably the problem as to why i cant connect to the router.

As anyone any ideas as to what i can try?...As im stuck as to what to try next.

Thanks

try setting the ip details on the computer manually.

ip - 192.168.1.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.1
dns server 192.168.1.1

Sorry for the late reply not tried them setting yet marc. only just got the pc with me now.....Its running vista so im pretty lost.

Its a bt voyager 220v router....Ive hooked it up to my winxp system and can connect to it and configure it fine in XP...but on this vista machine from my friend it just keeps telling me 'limited connectivity' and i cant at all connect to the router.

Ive done ipconfig/renew and get

An error occurred while renewing interface loca area connection: unable to contact your DHCP server.request as timed out.

Heres what i get from ipconfig/all

I am using a BT Voyager 220v router and BT Broadband, my operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium... On finishing my build at the weekend and installed my operating system, I simply plugged the Ethernet cable to my Motherboard and the BT Voyager 220v router was automatically detected, and I was able to connect to the internet straight away...... didn't have to install any drivers or mess around with any settings just plugged it in and it automatically worked..

Id love to reformat and re-installl which would probably fix it ...but he has all his data on here and dont want me to format.

Sound very much like conflicting drivers...a clean install might be his only choice, backing up his data is simple enough to do..if not he's going to continue having *software-hardware* conflicts, which will take longer to sort out than just re-formatting his HDD.

Ive just tried to uninstall the network adapter...but for some reason in vista it wont uninstall.

Is there anyway to uninstall and then let vista re-install ...its an onboard LAN

Thanks

Its got to be somthing to do with the BT voyager modem and vista istelf.

I can connect the BT modem to my xp machine no probs and configure it.

When i connect my friends vista machine to my netgear router it connects fine.

but when i connect his Vista machine to his Bt voyager router it always comes up with limited connectivity and cant connect to it to configure it.

This is what ive just got from the router itself when i connected it to my machine....can you see anything wrong with these settings whih is stopping it being visable to the vista machine?

thanks

i had same bother, i could connect through usb but not ethernet after fresh install ( xp) tho, then i realised i hadnt downloaded the driver for my board ( nvidia nforce 4) and now it works a treat...hope this helps

Finally managed to get it to work by doing a fresh format and now works fine.

Ive not managed to actually test his net as the computers with me.

From the piccy below is this the correct way to connect the router to the phone line?

theres that many ports much different to my netgear lol.

Before i give it him back want to make sure its correct?

Thanks
