BT vs Virgin

Well after all considered I decided to stick with BT (a case of better the devil you know). I called their retention team and they knocked my cost down a bit so ended up with fastest Infinity 2 and a mobile with 8GB, unlimted call / text for £41.99. Happy with that. New Master socket in place and going to look at my wiring setup to see if I can eck out a few extra mbps.

No joke, just rebooted my router right now after doing just that. No immediate improvement but guess my line will automatically retain to a higher sync speed over the coming days?

I think it can take a few weeks for it to catch up with you.

If you will look again at virgin the slow speed packages have very slow upload, I get 70-80 down and only 4-5 up, uploading any large files to net is just pain, they should easy provide 10+ on upload but I have been with them over 4 years now and only once had a issue and has been solved within 24h.

Virgin and it’s former component companies histoically sold you a download speed combined with just enough uplink to make it work, NTL were generally slightly more generous than Telewest is this respect. Not a lot has changed in 20 years since launch, other than you now have the option to pay for faster speeds. Unfortunately upload speeds aren’t competatively marketed and from Virgins perspective when they can offer speeds that the overwhealmong majority of BT customers can’t receive anyway, they don’t (excluding Mr Bolt) need an expensive gimmick to market with.

I'm a ex Virgin media 350mb customer( actually get 380mb on speed tests via ehternet), don't get me wrong the speed of the internet is there, but for gaming/responsiveness and snappiness ( youtube webpages), BT is ever so slightly responsive, and day and night in gaming, lower pings more frags on the enemy, to be honest, best thing i did was switch to BT( well okay TalkTalk) from Virgin. When Bt Catch up or fully release FTTH/FTTP it'll be a blood bath as Virgins infastructure is extremely overloaded and suffers with high utilization etc
