BT wireless client retaining IP?

basically we have a mobile user with an XP SP3 laptop, they have BT internet at home and have the BT wireless client installed (i know, we did uninstall it but BT keep telling them to reinstall when they cannot connect to their home wireless).

anyway, it seems to retain the home wireless IP address even though the adapter is set to DHCP? this causes no amount of problems when they come into the office and try to connect to the wireless.

anyone come across this before?

Hmm, we had probs with users that had BT as they used the same address range that our office had previously been configured with (192.168.0.x)

When they logged in at the office they were causing conflicts (d'oh!)

Anyway we changed our sites to run on 10.x.x.x ranges and now no more problem.

So, what ranges are you using in your offices as there could be an issue there possibly, also if that's not the issue then I'd be looking at the lease time of the DHCP server (and BT livebox) - maybe need to reduce that.

Need more info about what address ranges are being used to diagnose it better.

it doesnt conflict with our DHCP range..

for example if our DHCP range was 10.10.2.0 the client was using a 10.10.1.0 address. it does happen to use an address our servers sit on it just happens to miss any active IPs.

but that still doesnt explain why even with DHCP enabled on the laptop it does not pick up an address when it connects to our wireless..??

So it sounds like its the BT Wireless Client software that's causing the issue somehow. The only way to be sure is to uninstall again and test - I know from what you've said in your first post that you've uninstalled before and this seemed to have caused an issue with his home connection hence the BT client being back on there, but you didnt say if that sorted the issue at work?

Sounds to me like the BT Client isn't releasing the wireless adaptor correctly. Need to get rid of it IMO.
