Hey guys,

Can someone clarify the @btinternet.com settings for using email accounts in Outlook Express?

I setup the Home Hub/Internet okay for a friend today, but the one thing we couldn’t setup correctly was the email account settings for using email in OE…

We were able to login to their account online and sent/receive email, but they want to bring their account into a desktop client environment :)

The settings we thought would work, worked for the incoming mail server, but not the outgoing? Both mail servers are mail.btinternet.com – is that right

The outgoing settings failed to work in both OE and Thunderbird thinking about it?

So can someone please clarify or point me in the direction of the right settings ;)

Cheers,

SW.

Thanks mate - I haven't had a chance to check these settings out yet? We're still having internet problems...

I know for sure that the SMTP server is set to mail.btinternet.com as per the numerous net instructions around

There seems to be nothing official around from BT/Yahoo themselves?

Thanks for your help!

SW.

Hopefully this LINK will work.

**Edit** Cut N Pasted.

Alternatively you may set it up manually. These are the instructions for Outlook Express on a PC:

Open Outlook Express, click [Tools] then select Accounts
Click the [Mail] tab, then click [Add] and select Mail
The wizard will start. Type in your name then click [Next]
Enter your email address ([email protected] or [email protected]) then click [Next]
Enter the BT Yahoo! mail server address: mail.btinternet.com then click [Next]
Enter your username and password then click [Next]
Click [Finish]
To complete the account creation process click [Tools] then select Accounts
Click the [Mail] tab, then click [Properties]
Click the My server requires authentication box to place a tick inside. Click [OK]

Repeat the above process for each mail account you want to set up, including sub accounts. Each sub account will have a different email address and password.

If you're having trouble sending email from Outlook Express (or other email software), it may mean you need to switch on SMTP authentication.
