Btec National Diploma in I.T for Computer Practitioners (Software development)

Um, no. I applied to some pretty decent Uni's that required high a very high mark for the course (Overall Distinction), but that was it. Nothing about A-level Maths.

Also I guess it depends on which college you go to, because they teach different units. At the college I went to during the BTEC we were taught mathematics as part of the course as well as the other software development stuff such as programming.

EDIT: Also pretty much everything I did at college is very similar and relevant to what am currently doing on my software development course at Uni (First year).

Good day sir, what university are you at?

I would say yes because they asked for my qualifications and when i told them they were keen to accept me.....but i have other qualifications too so it does help you slightly......NO qualification will GET YOU INTO the job, they just HELP you along the way...Iv known people to start a technical job and not have any qualifications......

A qualification only shows the employer what you have studied as they know u will know a little something about the role...there is NO harm in going for it, I went for Law and Psychology too and i dont need that to work in my department but it makes me look more determined....again mate just go for it, ul benefit from it in the long run matey

Really I didn't think it was that bad at all. For our final project we had to design and implement some kind of game in visual basic, which was fairly enjoyable to be honest.

Anybody do this course in college? Thinking of doing it when i start college next year.

Thanks.

a couple of m8's r doin it @ college and it's almost the same as then General couse, but a handful of units are different as there the specialist 1's

Do systems support instead, its better then SD as imo its a lot more technical and practical. A lot of my lecturers are microsoft certified proffesionals along with other letters after their name :p

Ive learnt quite a lot from my course and a lot of last years students doing my course have gone onto nottingham trent, sheffield hallam uni etc

I'm doing the system support cert. It's a good course I guess. Some of the tasks are pretty lame but it's the same with most courses. You don't sit exams either which helps if you're taking an A-level. Put in a reasonable amount of effort and a DD (AA) is very much achievable.

Yeah, I'm doing that now...and I'm getting along fine so far. I'm at the top of the class with regard to assignment scores, easily. You don't NEED A level maths.

IMO You don't need maths BUT you do if you want to get into any half decent uni...

May I ask what uni you are at? It may well be a glorified college...

and although you may find the ties between maths and programming easy, many others struggle..

Personally I'm against btec qualifications, especially as i think people are lead to believe they are worth so much more that they actually are.. :o

Hehe for the guys who are doing it Good Luck with the Systems Analysis bit damn its crap, i havent met anyone who did the cource who enjoyed that bit lol or actually gained anything from it, pages and pages of mindless crap :/
