i cannot explain why, but i really want some nice bucket seats in my car. i just like the idea of them being 7kg, they feel nicer and just hold you in better.

problem is, ive got a 3dr.

if i have them on sliding mounts, is it still sorta possible to get people in the back? (less than 10 people ever have sat in the back since ive brought the car though...)

anyone had them before?

In a 3dr you'd be better of getting some recliners rather than proper buckets.

I'd second that if your feeling practical! Otherwise you could just rip out the back seats mount up some 5 point harnesses and pretend to be Colin Mcrae! (Note: this is a stupid idea 5 points are totally impractical for day to day use!)

5 points are fine, it just takes 10 seconds to put your belts on!

...And make sure you fit a full cage and wear a helmet every time you're in the car or it's your neck...Literally.

I had fixed back wide topped buckets in my Anglia and only I could get in the back. This is because I am very skinny and very bendy. The only other person I managed to get in there was a mate's girlfriend and she is a dancer :D

Is there a problem/issue with buckets and harnesses without wearing a full helmet and cage then? I can see the problems with a rollgace without buckets and harnesses, as you'd hit your head on the cage without the proper restraint, but can't see the problem with being tightly strapped in without a cage?

Surley a bucket with normal seatbelts is the same a a normal seat just more hugging. But agreed harnesses stop you being able to lean forward and if the roof of the car caves in its caving in your head which cant move out the way.

It's not the doing up thats the problem it's the total pain of not being able to move freely in your seat etc, a mate had them and I found going in his car a real chore and long jouneys were just a pain.

Heres my set up :D

Only got 1 seat cause it was so expensive and I only ever drive fast when im in the car myself.

Recliners are better as you can get a more comfortable position than a fixed back bucket seat.

Harness's are a PITA just use normal seat belts. Also difficult to install depending on what car you have.

Normal seatbelts allow you to pushed down and forward a bit in the event of the car rolling and the roof collapsing in, harnasses will hold you upright in the seat, meaning you get a bit squished :)

well typical recliners seem to weigh about double a non recliner which sorta defies the object.

ill do a test tomorrow using the normal seat and see if there is enough space between b post and seat to get in the back.

failing that i should just keep the normal ones.... :(

My BRIDE Gias recliner is carbon/kevlar weave so weighs nothing. tbh weight isn't really that much of a key factor unless you are gonna do it properly.

ie remove as much as humanly possible but still be road legal. You need to remove lots of kg's to make any noticable difference.

why should they only be for track and rally cars? really should get them for mine then, its been on the track a fair few times this year already

what do bucket seats have to do with the high street?
