Hi guys after all your help and advice ive been asked by my uncle to put a post on here about a build for him so here it is .
Basically he has a max budget of £700 cheaper the better and he wants a 19" widscreen monitor int that budget ive seen a decent setup on mesh Elite Quad 6600 FX but was wondering if I put it together he could get a bit more bang out for his buck or reduce the price. :D

Uses(s)?

But for an all-round system...

Get him a 20", IMHO he'll appreciate it!

But note that the off-the-shelf A.K.A. pre-built system might be cheaper & better in terms of software, peripherals, support, etc. Self-built you'll have to take the role of 'free support', something I personally do not enjoy doing :)

basically he will be using it for standard stuff no gaming just web surfing word publisher but he is a bit of a camera buff so he may want to do a bit of pic editing maybe video editing but nothing mega hard core .
He could probabley go a bit cheaper on spec but he will have this for a while so I want it to last and also be slightly upgradeable (I think thats a word).
Thanks for your help so far.:p

yeah thats what I thought quads nice but he wont come close to appreciating it and he has no idea of overclocking so a standard duo should be fine

That's screaming a fast processor if not QUAD, hard core or not! I'm no professional but I've come to appreciate a faster CPU for video encoding. Does not only reduce the time but increases quality, i.e. can work with, create, etc higher encoded videos. Quad's really excel in this field.

Also, if he's a camera buff he must work with loads of pics at very high res, right? Lets just say I've seen my Dual-Core cry when trying to preview, edit, etc large & many pics!

My point is, what your uncle will use the PC for is as demanding as gaming, just not on the GFX:)
