My sister has asked me to build her a budget pc.

She won't do any gaming what so ever, but will do a bit of encoding now and again. She is coming from a 8 year old pentium system with is faulty but doesn't want to spend any money on and would rather have a new system.

I have chosen the system below hoping the cpu will unlock to a quad core, not a huge problem if it doesn't, more of a bonus if it does :)

I haven't built an AMD system before, hence why I am asking if there's any incompatibilities or oversights in my spec.

I do plan to put a small overclock on the cpu (as much as the stock fan can take) so is the ram upto the job?

Comments welcome.

EDIT: I have obviously missed off the dvd/cd rw drive, will add before purchasing.

Id swap the case and psu for the coolermaster 430 case with psu, better case same sort of price
Also you can now get the new Phenom x4 840 for only a tenner more than that dual core, worth a look imo

For the extra £5 this PSU instead is definitely worth it

Also from what I've heard you might want to get her a cheap aftermarket CPU cooler as I believe the AMD stock one can get quite loud.

Something like this:

I'd choose the PSU upgrade over the CPU cooler though if price is an issue, but yeah if you want to do a small overclock, I'd say it might well be worth getting an aftermarket cPU.

RAM is fine though :)
