Budget but up-gradable build

Our daughter (11yrs) is getting into her gaming, she was given an old Dell inspiron 530 rocking the ever powerful E6550 :)... Shes coped for a year with it just watching Youtube and playing minecraft and Roblox.

More recently shes become a SIMs 4 addict so its time to build her a new PC, on a very tight budget though. Lookign to do something that acheives whats needed today but is upgradable over the next few years if her gaming extends beyond SIMs and Roblox.

So question 1.

Should i be looking at a Rizen 3 1200, or for the saving do you think for now i can get away with an Athlon X4 950 which i believe sits on the same AM4 as the Rizen chips, enabling an upgrade in future years to a better Rizen chip

Ta

This is the current build i'm looking at:

just over £600 for this lot, any ideas for trimming the spend back further?

  • Athlon X4 950 - £55
  • Corsair Carbide A240 Mini Atx case - £65
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £483.04 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Why the Ryzen 1200 over than Athlon though? its almost half the cost to go with the Athlon

Is the Ryzen 3 really worth the increased cost?

Althon is older generation and has been made to fit new AM4 socket with tweaks.
Ryzen is a whole new design

Ryzen Am4 socket will take 3 generations so can always drop a better CPU , but get a better board like ASrock pro 4 or Gaming 3 mATX

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £281.03 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Have a look at the Motherboard section and you'll see why intend to quote gigabyte more, have a very very strong presence on here compared to the rest that even have one rep

Ok, how does this look....is the 1050ti overkill? its only a couple of beers more than the 1050 G1

I'll get the case elsewhere for £65 and Win10 i'll go get an OEM License key for £10

All in i'm squeezing in at £600

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £532.96 (includes shipping: £11.10)

With a £600 budget I would be hoping for an i5 or ryzen 5, imho its £35 more if you were looking to spend that £35 on performance, I would pick the Ryzen 5.

By the time I’ve purchased the case and windows licence I’m hitting the £600 top end limit.

I’m better off with the R3 and 1050ti combo right, rather than upping to an R5 and dropping the GPU down to a £100 card.

Do I buy now or wait till Friday and hope the discounts are still on the current items, when hopefully some of the others will be discounted as well.

If you can push Ryzen 1400, do it !
Least with Ryzen, it will support 3 generations , so in 5 years you could out in a 3rd Gen CPU that's 2 years old 2nd hand etc .
The Intel platform is stuck in the water , unless you get a second hand i7 K version, but rumor is z390 will be 8 cores..

The G1 1050Ti is a stunning card for the price !
Lot more performance then the rx560 I mentioned.
Should see 1080p/60fps at high/medium settings nicely
Bit overkill for Sim4 but her gaming might expand , and will be better equipped to suit

Either the Corsair 3000hz or team group 3000hz will see you solid ! Personally prefer team group
