Im looking to get a new gfx card for a new rig im building.

Needs to be PCI-E and be better then the ATI radeon 9700 128MB im using in this old machine.

Will mainly be playing games on the Source Engine, World of Warcraft (want high settings + high fps) and will be looking to play the new UT game aswell.

Budget is £40-50.

Can you help? thanks!

Nothing at that price range is going run UT3 particularly well.

You need to getting into the 2nd hand market really. An X1800XT or maybe an X1900XT will be your best bet fro around the £50 mark. Or perhaps a 7800GTX

X1900XT's however are still fetching £65 - £70 in some places so you may struggle.

My mate's 86gt ran UT3 fine on pretty high settings (until it popped...)

These can be had for ~£45 second hand

Keep your eye on the Members Market here.

I recently bought an ATI X1900XT for £50 in there.

Just built a new system with it as part of it and I know the X1900XT is an oldish card, but I had an Nvidia 6800 AGP in there before on my old motherboard.

The X1900XT is now allowing me to play BioShock at very high levels of detail and its as smooth as you could want during gameplay. That's with an E6300 clocked to just under 3.0Ghz on an ASUS P5K motherboard with 2Gb 6400 Geil RAM.

£50 well spent, I'm happy!!!. :D

how do 2600 PRO 512mb cards hold up on Source Engine games?

seen one for £45

edit :: another card i saw was the x1650 pro 512mb. any good?

ta

2600PRO with the source engine runs fine, as ATI love source.
But the x1650Pro is crap.

The 2600Pro wont run new games like UT good tho.

If you want to run new and future games, get yourself a 2nd hand X1900XT or save up another £50 and get a 3850Pro.

Or another option is find yourself a £40 8500GT with DDR3 memory and overclock the hell out of it, as they are actually quite good.

2600XT 512mb runs ut3 well and I picked up a HIS X1900XT 512mb for about £60 plus postage.

X1950 pro 512MB is another suggestion.
