Hey there im stuck as to which cpu i should get i have been browsing on OCUK Im on on a budget and was looking at either an I3 the FX Series 4170 or and older Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition I will be using an EVGA 2GB GeForce GTX 550 Ti NVIDIA Graphics Card i aready have. Im not looking to spend more than £200 quid for the mobo and CPU. It will be used just for gaming. Any help would be appreciated.

An i5 1155 CPU and the cheapest board available for 1155, should be able to get for 200 easy, i5 prices are pretty high at OCUK at the moment.

Im not sure which route to go down a cheap i3 and good mobo so can just buy an i5 later on without having to replace the bored or a cheaper amd and then new mobo and cpu in a year or so

Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail with a MSI Z77A-G45 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard will my gtx 550ti perform its best with only an i3

You can get an i5 + board for £200 if you're prepared to buy 2nd hand.

My 2500k cost me £118 in new/sealed condition. Bought the board new from OcUK (Asus P8z77-m @ £90)

I don't really see the point of the i3 chips. Too dear to be a stopgap (better off with a Pentium G8xx/G6xx) and only a little more to move up to i5.

i'll give you my take .. current spec is in sig

i had a media build pc which was dual dore.. decided i want to get abit more omph with better graphics as i knew at some point i was going to game at 1080p ( at the time i was 720p tv )

my options involved either staying inside my own mobo upgrade path or doing a whole mobo/cpu/ram upgrade .

after waying up the options i decided to just quad core 965BE due to the oc ability . and show me a game that requires 4 cores atm ?? think i'm safe at what im usign for another 18 months . my system uses 4 gb of ddr2 ram so i'm going to get another 4gb next month .. will pay a slight premium , but i dont mind as next upgrage will be a complete system overhaul .. which will prob set me back over £600
