Budget gaming upgrade advice

Thanks, just to make it crystal, other than sata 3, what makes it so much better in your opinion...bearing in mind the extra expense.

Well you said you wanted him to have an i5 but that's out of the budget now but if we spec the system right you can upgrade the CPU later. Much later once the i5Ks are going secondhand cheap enough perhaps?

The K edition CPUs have a better IGP and are multiplier unlocked i.e Overclockable. You can't overclock on the H61 mobos you need a Z series.

As i explained above. The Z series can run the RAM at 1600mhz, it allows overclocking of K series CPUs. Most of the mobos come with lucidMVP which can switch between the IGP and GPU depending on what's needed to save power. During gaming the IGP can boost the GPU. You get USB3 and SataIII obviously......something like THIS is an ideal entry level mobo. You might have noticed I used it in my very first spec and it has a few quid shaved off it this week.

Interesting, had forgotten about overclocking. I might be able to get it in the budget as long as the psu my mate has offered me is compatible with the graphics. It's 650w and is from a system built when the x850xt was top ati dog. He is also giving me a good case from those days too.

now that you have 100 posts, you qualify for free p&p, so if you dont need the rig right now, as in immediately, just buy the parts as it comes on sale and you'll save a few quid

Dude i've already said that! Stop stealing my advice and posting it on threads :P

P.S Welcome to the club Mcgraw :D

Yay 100 posts at last.

I can get what I need now as I definitely don't need a case or power supply.

Now, he isn't bothered if he has to wait a little while but bearing in mind the intel SSd goes up in price soon and I feel like memory may do too, would you buy now or hang on? I would much prefer to do it all in one.

Cheers.

ram is not on offer this week. i'd wait tbh
ssd-wise, idk about the 60gb drives. i just dont think they're good bang for buck. other opinions may differ
