anyone recommend a lappy that is capable of running the source engine (games) comfortably at the lowest price...

Or basicallt whats the minimum Gfx i would want to be looking for in a laptop for that.

thanks

Im not sure what kind of games you mean Bob but i do know that a decent lappy capable of running proper games, Crysis for example, will set you back a bag a sand or more and one with a moderate amount of gfx power will cost you £600ish. On-line games and less gfx intensive games like WOW will play on a lower end lappy with typical on-board gfx but then you have the limitations of laptop gaming such as battery life and heat dissipation. You will need to invest in a good laptop cooler to remove the excess heat, the battery is going to be the biggest obstacle however; for a start gaming will reduce the lifespan and keeping it plugged in will degrade the battery to the point where you will need it replaced sooner or later.

If i were you Bob i wud build a specific gaming machine and buy a low end laptop with the money saved by not buying a very expensive gaming laptop.

I have a rig that is capable of gaming... sorry i should have been more precise about its use.

I will be using it to take to uni basically to do those all nighters in group coursework... and to break up the work load i would like some gaming power in it... or in the off chance i can take it to friends rather than lug my PC over.

More than likely i will leave the battery out ...and keep it charged for if am ever on the move (travelling etc).
The sort of games would be CnC zero hour or counterstrike... not to demanding.

thanks

Apparently the Ion-based netbooks are capable of playing those games. It all depends on how portable you want it to be.

I myself am in a similar predicament, I use my 360 for all the main gaming, and want a portable lappy for taking to uni, for the lib etc. Considered an Acer 1810 but it has terrible graphics power. Ion netbooks on the other hand have good graphics capabilities but are choked by the Atom processor.

Depends on your priorities. Light gaming plus excellent battery life and portability=netbook with Ion. If you already have a capable desktop I would recommend the netbook. Getting the HP Mini 311 myself, has great reviews. Check out the "sub £250 netbook" thread
