Budget of £120,current best android phone?

I don't see why anyone would go for the G300 over the Galaxy Ace 2? The G300 is a great budget phone having used one before, but the Galaxy Ace 2 is a dual core CPU.

This is for Mrs Dimple and I don't want to mod it.

So you wouldn't agree with this review of the battery - www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/pics3/g300.pdf

why don't you want to mod it?

it will make it easier to use, more efficient, faster, etc. you only need to flash a custom rom and then hand it to her, then she can use it as if it were a "stock" phone, it makes no difference who the end user is, even if it was a 6 year old, much better they be on CM than a really old version of android.

if your looking for a decent stock phone then the san diego is the one to look at but it is t-mobile / orange only.

otherwise G300 on a custom ROM

or get a clone phone from amazon, dhgate or ebay. e.g. you can get a Note 2 clone for £150 ish

Because I got sick to death of modding my SGS1 and Orange SF which didn't really do anything.
I must have tried the 10 greatest mods on the SGS1 ending up with Darky Rom 10.2.2 and they still weren't any better than my mates stock rom.
I now refuse to mod my S3 because it is fast enough.
After 3 years of constant modding I've decided it is the Emperors New Clothes.

I've just noticed this.
I'm not arguing but can you justify this?

it's a single core phone, nexus 4 has 4 cores.

look at the battery sizes and it's a bit like comparing 2 cars.

one has a 1 litre engine with a 15 litre capacity tank the other a 4 litre engine with a 21 litre capacity tank. which do you expect to last longer?

if you do not use the phone (idle engine), then the nexus 4 will last longer, but if you use the phone a lot (full throttle) then the g300 will last longer.

nexus 4 lasts me 10-12 hours, g300 when custom rom'd lasted 2 days.

also with the g300 it really need a custom rom the stock software is really poor, it's slow, i have owned it and it is so much better with cm on it

Thanks for that.
Mrs Dimple will not need 4 cores but will want a better battery life.

Since 4.2.2 Nexus 4 battery life is 2x what it was before, not sure how good a g300 is but if the Nexus 4 gets me through a day I'm sure Mrs Dimple will do just fine. Moreover for me its just the experience with lower end Android phones is just terrible, I got my aunt a SF2 after that great reviews and all, I put lots of different roms but I always hear the same complaints, its laggy, its buggy, battery life wouldn't last a day, touch screen suck.

I'm perosnally just going to get her a Nexus4 8GB as shes give me £150 and I expect she will find it to be faster then her PC.

^^ That mirrors my own experience with the lauded ZTE Blade 2, I'm sure it is a leader in its class but is actually not that good a user experience, especially if you're trying to turn someone onto android, there is a UK based seller selling rooted and rommed g330d's for £138+6 for the root, for correct deets n figures see link I've added.

Ah, just checked the link it's out of stock at the mo.

It's not as simple as that; the SoC in Nexus 4 is 28nm versus the 45nm SoC in the G330; it uses less energy to do the same work. Also, because it is more efficient and faster it'll do the work faster and have the cores idle faster. Furthermore, the cores aren't always firing so if only 1 or 2 is needed then the rest are offline; it doesn't always bring 4 cores online everything. So yes, if it was a case of just a binary switch from idle to 4 cores (not only that but at full clockspeeds) then your comparison up there makes sense but unfortunately that isn't the case here.

And as we're bringing mods into this look up Franco Kernel for the Nexus 4, it really helps to increase battery life. You can additional stuff like undervolt and limit CPU clock speeds or even hotplugging cores.

Should have been clear I'm just going to add the difference myself as I feel its worth it. My aunt tends to keep a phone for 3 years or so but the SF2 was just such a bad phone that she can't take it anymore.

the SF2 is the same as a Monte Carlo apart from screen size, it is now essentially quite old.

the G300 is much much better, plus it is now roughly £85.

or you could always buy a cheap chinese clone.
