Budget Race Rig for my Son

This is a lovely project and very well done for sticking to such a minimal budget. Forget wanting something like this when I was a kid, I want it now! :p have you had a go yourself?

It's got me thinking that perhaps I need to look at one of those fold up race seats. I really don't have the space to have it out all the time but with a vr headset I wouldn't need to worry about a monitor so could keep it (relatively) minimal...

Thanks all! My Son loves it. He's been playing the delivery missions on BeamNG.

I've had a go, I used to learn the UK tracks a few years ago on the older version of the wheel (G920) when I was racing in MSV, EnduroKA. It's quite addictive, esp when you get the car set-up. I've said to my son I'm going to set a lap time on a different track each week, he's got to beat my time to earn some pocket money :D

Performance wise, it's pretty decent. Everything we have thrown at it hits the V-Sync 60fps cap. This evening I've had some issues with my main PC so have been using it.

Final step might be worth considering picking up a super cheap VR headset - Rift S can be had for next to nothing now, and will really make a difference!

A small but decent upgrade.

I've been having issues with my main PC, so this Race rig has been used to troubleshoot! Long story short, but I ended up swapping out my Power Supply and RMA'ing my RAM. Whilst looking around I found a Boxed AMD Ryzen 5600x on FB Market for £40. It was listed with "Problems" Apparently standard boost clocks were unstable and I would have to clock it back slightly. Given it not far from me I took a punt - with a view of upgrading my other Son's gaming rig (Ryzen 2700x, 32Gb RAM and a rx6600)

Picked it up and of course it's perfect. No stability issues at all, therefore my Son Freddie got a nice upgrade.

This means, I could upgrade the gaming Rig's 1700 to a 2700x. All installed and working well!

Ollie's still enjoying the "Slightly" upgraded race rig now. Using the Assetto Corsa with an MSV EnduroKA modification pack that I used to use when racing. Ollie got with in a couple of tenths of me. Fantastic job!

Rig update

Not much use in the past few months due to my son getting back into Fortnite with his mates on the PS5. However, I had a bare RX590 that was given to me with a water cooling build. I parted it out and kept the RX590 without a cooler. I managed to pickup a complete RX590 dead card the other week - Took off the cooler and now upgraded to a RX590. £14 upgrade!

a nice upgrade. Congrats on the project mate

Absolutely brilliant, I love a good budget build and looks like you've put together a very decent racing sim for a very reasonable budget. Top Work.
