Budget system for photo editing and gaming

Hi all

I'm looking at building a budget system for photo editing and gaming.

At my parents house I have an Intel 2500K system that I built a couple of years ago. I like the performance of it and would be very happy building a similar based system. However, I'm very surprised to see that a 2500K CPU is priced at £160! I would have thought it would be around £100 by now. Nuts.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm considering a 1155 socket system but paired with a lower spec of CPU.

Budget is around £270. I already have a PSU. I also have a GPU that I can make do with until upgrading a month down the line.

Any suggestions would be great.

I thought I read somewhere that the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Rev 1 (which OCUK is selling in clearance) is a mare to get Ivybridge to play nicely as it involves using an alpha BIOS. Rev 2 is apparently okay though?

Didn't know that, just checked the compatibility list on the website and it said it supports the 3570k
