A friend has asked me to take a look at their laptop has it has 'a bug in the screen'. I was expecting dead pixels, but no the discription was right there is a small flea in the screen between the actual panel and the top layer, unfortunatly the user crushed the bug so its not going to crawl away alone.

Is there a way to strip the panel, its a toshiba sattelite p200 series?

I've seen a guide for stripping the laptop chassis but it doesn't cover the display, is it put up with or replace or fixable?

Its probably a harvest fly rather than a flea, well one would hope so.

As for stripping the panel, i wouldnt know where to begin :( i would think it wouldnt be that easy a job without getting something else trapped between the 2 :( you could end up removing the bug and find dust or fluff stuck behind there instead. Try tapping the screen to see if you can shift it that way.

I had the same thing during the summer months with my dell xps laptop. The phone call to dell was fun. Got it replaced without any issues though.

This is a step by step guide on how to take apart a laptop screen - it's not the same model but it will give you a good idea what to expect - link.

Failing that you could buy a new screen and fit it yourself it's not difficult and costs approx £30-£50 - there are few places now that sell screens a lot cheaper than direct from the manufacturer - google.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunatly the squashedness of the bug is stopping it been tapped away and looking at the instructions in the link the risk of really breaking it out ways the irritation of it being there. I'll ask the owner what he wants to do, it can be on his head.
