Hi all, heres the crux of it, I lent my Acer Aspire 3500 laptop to a "friend" shall we say for a fair while... got it back this weekend and just turned it on... worked fine, went straight into windows, on the net etc then boom. Explorer crashed, IE crashed, an svc services shutdown message came up saying the PC was shutting down within 30 seconds and since then windows wouldn't load and gave me an odd BSOD. Pic below.

Now, I reformatted the thing (nothing important I dont think on there) using the Acer restore CD's and it ran that process fine, I'd just guessed it had got a bad virus on it which killed windows but I was planning on wiping it anyway. Now the reinstallation went fine, until it came to rebooting the machine for windows to load for the first time, and the exact same error message came up in the form of a BSOD. Check this pic and even better, check the website it refers to:

So... what do you think? I have got to tell you this laptop has been back for repair 3 times when it was brand new, so far its had 3 faulty hard drives swapped and it had a tendancy to keep BSOD'ing random messages upon reboot after reboot... so bad that it'd restart from post, bsod as soon as windows started to load, and carry on doing it until it wouldn't even turn on, as if it was an overheating problem but acer say not... but since it came back last time, it has been fine for a good 6 or 7 months....until now :|

BIOS buggered? Another send it back job? Anyone got a clue why it would give that BSOD?

It's funny you say that, I'll have to find the repair sheets but I'm certain the ram was swapped the first time it went in for repair. I have no idea how memtest works but I'll go find it and try it... I am thinking I'll take it back for a 4th time but this time request a replacement or something lol it's the same kinda problems over and over.

The bit which gets me though which is making me think some kinda "bios virus" is it's referring to a website: www.hardware-update.com which looks really dodgy and not official at all... what do you think? :(
