Hello all

Once again I need your expert advice.

I've saved up and I'm going to buy the latest 3080 ti or 3090 when it comes out (cost depending). I want to buy a system around this. From the leaks it might be PCIe 4 so I would like a AMD combo

I need :
Processor, Memory, mobo, case and power supply. have around £500

What do you recomend?

Thanks for your help.
Cheers

You'll need to spend a little more if you want decent components to suit, or your build will be incredibly unbalanced and likely limit the 3080/90's performance somewhat.

I'd say the below is a minimum, ideally I'd of said to get a 3700X but 3600 will do great still. You want 3600MHz RAM at least to compliment the Ryzen platform, could drop to 3200MHz and get a cheaper RAM kit, at the cost of a slight performance decrease.

Could prob get away with 750w PSU but 850w as extra headroom, no one knows power draw on new GPUs but it's meant to be a bit higher with the new 12-pin connector.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £622.95 (includes shipping: £0.00)

You would probably be best waiting for the new cards to drop and seeing how they perform with certain CPUs before buying anything.

The next round of graphics cards will likely give a massive jump in performance. To leverage that would require a fast CPU and very high resolution monitor. I would think you'll need a 10900K overclocked or top end Ryzen 3 chip.

ok now the 3080 is coming out and its cheaper than i expected. Ive got around £600 700. I want support for PCIe Gen 4 and on board M2 SSD NVMe socket. would 16gig did do the trick?

Any help would be great.

Ram is at s very good price I would get 32gb if budget allows.

Games like MS flight sim 2020 are reported to use more than 16gb.

Are you staying with the 3600 and maybe waiting for zen 3 of do you want a better cpu like the 3700x ?

With B550 boards, the top PCI-E and M.2 slots are PCIe 4.0 :)

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10
  • Ultra Durable™ PCIe 4.0 x16 Slot
Expansion Slots
  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot (PCIEX16), integrated in the CPU:
    - 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen™ processors support PCIe 4.0 x16 mode
    - New Generation AMD Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Graphics processors support PCIe 3.0 x16 mode
    * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.
  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot (PCIEX2), integrated in the Chipset:
    - Supporting PCIe 3.0 x2 mode
  3. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot (PCIEX1_2), integrated in the Chipset:
    - Supporting PCIe 3.0 x1 mode
  4. 1 x PCI Express x1 slot (PCIEX1_1), integrated in the Chipset:
    - Supporting PCIe 3.0 x1 mode

X570 becomes more expensive when B550 will do everything you want just fine within your budget.

X570 pros are PCIe 4.0 on the extra PCIe slots, both NVMe slots, more SATA ports usually, etc.

B550 is a year newer chipset and slots just 'below X570' but still has some great pros - PCIe 4.0 support in top PCI-E/M.2 slot, 2.5Gb LAN on most boards (probably not that useful atm), no active cooling needed (although not an issue I never hear my X570 chipset fan) etc...
