i currently have

q6600
gigabyte p31 m/board
4gb ram
be quiet 600w power supply
ati 5850 toxic g/card
generic cd/rom rw
antec 1200 case
1 tb hard drive
windows 7

was looking to upgrade my pc

and thinking i could keep the case, power supply, hard drive, cd/rom and use my windows 7 again

plus i might buy the g/card in a few months

main use for the pc will be games mainly stratagy and mmo's
i have a budget around £500
but would go to £700 if the dffrence is really worth it
not a fan boy just looking for value for money

im thinking i need m/board,cpu,cooler,ram and g/card
i have no idea how to overclock but not worried about buying a system which was pre overclocked
was looking at this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-152-OE
with possibly a £200 g/card
but ive not build a pc for a few years so no idea whats good or not so any help would be most welcome

thanks for the reply

i am just wondering if its better to get a 16gb ram kit instead of just 8 gb and would there be much diffrence?

also are there any better m/boards as i never know maybe one day i might try to overclock it

Unless you do much video editing etc then 8GB of RAM is ample for gaming.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £179.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD250BW) ** Cash Back Promo ** £134.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £85.99
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £47.99
1 x Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £35.99
Total : £496.34 (includes shipping : £9.50).

£15 Cashback on the SSD and that will make a serious improvement to the boot time and loading of apps installed to it. The i5K is dead easy to OC, if you would rather have the i7K instead of the SSD that's down to you.

The 5850 is better than the 6850. I have a 1GB 460 which is roughly on par with the 6850. I'm holding out till Oct. for a GPU upgrade as BF4 will be bundled free with AMD GPUs. With Total War Rome expected at the end of the year you might as well wait, strategy and MMOs are more CPU dependant anyways.

this looks very good
and its a good idea to wait till later in the year for the g/card

the ssd looks a good idea
i might go for this

As you get £15 back on the SSD you could pay the extra for the retail CPU as it has a 3 year warranty and stock heatsink (not that you'd need it). The OEM has one year warranty and no heatsink. CPU failure is rare but no one will blame you for paying the extra for peace of mind.

I still find my 1GB 460 to be capable for my needs but I have pushed the factory overclock further. It's more than happy with DX9 titles it's DX11 that tests it. If you haven't already you could consider OC'ing the 5850 with MSI afterburner or similar software to help tide you over :)
