So, would be buying from a friend, replacing my 8 year old HD7950, Z68AP D3 I5 2500k build used for Football Manager, Cities:Skylines and browsing on a triple screen set up.
I'd like to be using this new build for the same games, plus F1 22, iRacing and Assetto Corsa.

Intel Core i9 9900k - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-672-in.html
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8Gb - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1dw-gi.html
32Gb RAM DDR4 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...-3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-grey-my-0aj-tg.html
Not sure on MoBo/power supply

Thoughts?

I'd be inclined to buy new for that amount of money. Warranty aside you would have newer stuff.

If your mate has very high quality components (case, PSU, mobo) that might change things, but this doesn't feel worth it to me otherwise.

I'm with Mr beard on this too. he's asking too much.

I like the 9900K but it's not the all dominating powerhouse it once was. The 3070TI isn't as expensive as it once was either, especially with the second hand market flooded with ex mining cards.

I know you didn't ask for a build here, but just an example of why this doesn't sound like a great deal for a second hand rig (this isn't even the cheapest mobo I could have picked). I wouldn't recommend this build - that PSU plugging into that high a cost of graphics card is too much of a risk for my temperament:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,148.86 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thank you for the replies and I definitely appreciate the build threads. This would have likely been my next question if the general consensus was to buy new! :D
I'll likely do more research and go new, especially as I could use a credit card and spread the cost across 2 years INterest free (introductory offers :) )

Just so you're aware there's a bunch of new stuff coming that's expected this year.

If you're not in a rush it may be a good idea to wait for Black Friday in November.

WHile I'm not in a rush I would like one soon. I bought Football Manager 22 and lots of DLC for Cities Skylines this week (Humble Bundle) neither of which run on my PC as they should. PLus, it's 8 years old so whatever happens I'll be getting a huge upgrade in terms of performance! :D

Things are moving quite fast at the moment, so it might be a good idea just to buy the minimum you need for now and budget for some upgrades down the line.

Just for the record, your friend probably isn't trying to rip you off, the second hand prices for those parts are quite high, the 9900K in particular is worth way more than it should be (likely because it's the last upgrade on the socket, KS aside). The modern equivalents for that sort of money are just so much faster that these used prices aren't worth it. Alas, Intel stuff seems to hang on forever like this, even the 7700K (2017) still goes for £150.
