Hi there,

speced.jpg

Any thoughts on this build? It's going to be used for games on a 22" monitor, unlikely to be upgraded for the next three years or so but don't have much more than £750 to blow.

I was speccing this up for a friend, he seems to insist on having his games running 'fast', I personally wasn't sure about this but thought 2 SATA 6gb/s in RAID would do that for him? I think it'd be better just to get a fast 1gb HDD right? I've put that there for his temporary satisfaction! I assume I am right though, in that RAID1 (or is it 0, where the data is split between the two?) with those two won't really do anything?

Have done you a new spec using the massively faster Sandybridge.

I have included a SSD which is faster than any mechanical drive and there is still storage with the 500GB HDD

I kept the same case as its fine, and if you/your friend likes it then keep it.

Motherboard supports SLI and Crossfire and includes a free heatsink, the PSU is more powerful too.

Agree above is better, though personally Id even ditch the SSD and upgrade the gfx, SSD is nice but not essential on a gaming build, as youre working to a budget its best not to compromise in important areas (GPU) to fit in less important (SSD)

That looks better, I think. Thank you. I've kept myself out of the loop of tech for the past couple of years.

I'm slightly unsure on the case though, it needs to be smallish, I've considered the Fractal midi cases but I've heard about shoddy build quality.

The case is your freinds choice, hes the one who has to look at it everyday, the only time I have seen a bad report about Fractel cases is from damage to the door during transit by a shipping company.

I dont agree with the above either, a 5850 and a 22" screen is plenty, get the SSD for the rapid level load times etc.

4 HDD's Stulid.
Why dont you just get a decent 3GB/s HDD with 32mb cache and your Solid state instead of two 6GB/s HDD's. that many hard drives will get annoying.
