My mate asked a while ago for a build at £1000 budget and i got some good responses so same again would be great. In typical fashion, he has decided to change his budget and thus the whole lot needs redoing:p

All parts are needed inc monitor, OS, KB ,Mouse.

I have chosen the following but im sure the hard workers on here can do better :D. Also considered adding a low end sound card, thoughts?

Colour scheme of black seems to be the order of the day so no viper of noctua fan suggestions please :)

2500k £167
MOBO, z68 chipset but unsure to which one. (Asus p8z68? £170)
Shinobi or shinobi XL Preorder? (other case could be better?) (£140)
HD Radeon 7950, sapphire with blue PCB but best cooler? £390
XFX 850W £110
OCUK 24" monitor £119
1TB HDD £90
M4 Crucial 120GB £130
Kingston Hyper X 8gb £37
H100 cooler £80
Sensei mouse £60 --FIXED
Logitech ultraflat £12 (could probably do a lot better?)
home Premium £61

total: about £1540

Many thanks in advance.

Definitely spend more on the monitor, no point spending so much on top of range gfx card and skimping on monitor, especially when you consider he's likely to keep monitor longer. You want a decent quality one, whether that be a 120Hz if he's into FPS or an IPs for the overall awesomeness of them, you want better than the cheapest TN panel you could find

As for mobo, look at the ASRock Extreme4 Gen3, very good board (I use one) and would fit colour scheme well

Case wise you could look at a Corsair 650D as an alternative, but the XL is good

Your speed is truly remarkable stulid, thank you. I dont think i can persuade him not to get a sensei but some recent kit i hadn't thought of in there.

EDIT: Is there space in a standard shinobi for an H100? ALso, a small case like this may be a little too hot with that GPU?

EDIT:EDIT: Possible to get a monitor with HDMI too?

I use an Ex4 G3 too, nice board i agree. My only issue with a 650D is that i have a 600T and i am about to cut my grills out because they cause even my apache fans to be loud, and they are the same chassis.

I am awaiting reply on that particular case, but his general preference is simplicity and elegance. I think it will be too OTT for his tastes.

The Dell has a displayport, simple connection to a 7950 (mini-displayport-displayport cable), leaves a Displayport port and DVI free for two more screens in Eyefinity.

Sorry, he wants the HDMI for PS3/Xbox. He will be selling one i think but insists on keeping one.

I had chat with my mate on the phone and he wasn't terribly enthusiastic about a £240 monitor, mainly because (we are students) he has a 32" samsung TV at home with HDMI and VGA 'PC IN' connections that he wishes to use.

He also thinks the P280 look like a fridge, i lol'ed. So a wait for the XL is going to be in hand i think as he as fallen in love with it's look i think.

Many people think that...they have not seen the light! :D

Correct me, but I think 120Hz is a little bit of a gimmick - you'd see an increase in picture quality from an IPS screen?

I can't comment as i only have LG flatron :( i do need an upgrade i think, my 6970 deserves better. (Possibly soon to be 7950)

EDIT: if you know a little about monitors, can just leave a quick comment of different technologies i should be researching so i can read about them. Thanks
