Unfortunately, MB has only HDMI and Displayport.

Monitor supports DVI and VGA only.

Don't have a Displayport/ DVI Adapter cable.

I am concerned that there are no lights on the MB during POST except Power and reset buttons.

I thought that maybe I should see some numbers on the DR debug LED's that would signal either a success code or a fail code.

theres not a button on front of monitor to switch between dvi / what other connection may be on monitor?

usually picks it up automatically but i know mine sometimes wanders around sarching on vga when im connected via hdmi

Take out the GPU anyway and try booting it to see if it all lights up, so hopefully eliminating the GPU as the source of the problem.

Failing that try just it with just a single stick of RAM installed.

@Gav

Did as you suggested.

Took graphics card out.
Swithed on got LED's this time and Dr Debug Lights. :)
Put Graphics Card back.
Now got Post.

Thanks

Wiil attempt putting in case tomorrow night.

@ Bacon - Not update BIOS yet.

Current version on Asus Website is 1617 dated 16-Oct-2012.

So I will update using BIOS flashback tomorrow.

@ Gav yor first suuestion worked great so no need to uplug the TV and put the family in the dark.

New Question

This is one of the case cables in the switch 810, I think it is from the SD card reader. It appears to have the word SATA written on it, but it is not going to fit in any of the standard SATA 2 or SATA 3 headers used by the disk drives.

My question is where do I plug this in or what cables do I need.

I have an Asus P8Z77-V deluxe mother board.

Further problem.

All connected. Did post outside case.

However, now that everything is connected inside the case:
Power on, Power and Reset lights come on on the motherboard.
Press case Pwr switch, but nothing happens.
Switch everything off again, then swith on, then try pressing the MB power switch,
there is a slight click noise but no Debug lights.
The cpu cooler fan not turning either.

Not sure what to do next.

Before installing the motherboard into the case you did screw in the Standoffs didn't you?

They are like little Screw extensions. You put these in place to line up with he holes on the motherboard but on the case. These raise it to stop the Motherboard Shortening out on the case's bare metal. You could be lucking and have only made something earth early in the circuit. Or unlucky and shorted it so 12V went straight to CPU.

Please say you installed Standoffs?

Problem solved.

The problem was the 8 pin cpu power cable connection.

It was installed, but in order to route the cables the extension cable suppled by NZXT was connected to the cable from the PSU and then connected to the mother board.

I removed the extension cable and used the 8-pin cable form the PSU and plugged it in directly to the 8pin cpu power and it worked. May need to get another 8pin cpu power extension cable.

System is up and running. Installing Windows and drivers.

There are a lot of files to download from the ASUS website, is ther a quick way to download and install everything or do you need to do them one at a time?

Good to hear that you have found and solved that problem.

It would be best if you do it manually, some of those auto installer thingies can make a right mess of it.

Just download all of the motherboard drivers to a folder on your desktop and then install the drivers one at a time. You can do the same thing with the Utility Programs that you need as well.
