Over the past two weeks I've been sorting out my build, looking at reviews, getting Spec Checks etc. Thanks to a number of members here, I now have all my components (SSD and RAM on way)..

:)

To be honest I have little idea what I'm doing, as I haven't found many Lian Li X500 builds... I have been checking out some guides though..
I think I almost know what I'm doing with everything bar the fans.. The case has a controller, and I don't know which fans should be plugged into the motherboard or PSU..
Here are some pictures to show what I mean....

p1070107.jpg

(above) These come from the fan controller

p1070108.jpg

(above) There are four fans, I take it they go straight into the power? Fan controller somehow changes their speed although they don't have a direct connection?

p1070110y.jpg

(above) Fan on heatsink. Firsty, how do I know if the fans facing the right direction?! (till I switch it on - there aren't arrows on it like I've seen on others). Secondly - Where does the connector plug in... It fits in system fan but not cpu fan...

Thanks for any help!
Edit: Sorry for huge image! Changed..

To see which way the fan is blowing, you look at the cruved blades, you want to swap your heatsink 180 degrees around, as it is pushing the air opposite (away from) the back fan.

No, he just needs to swap the Noctua fan the other way round.

Although not always the case, most of the time the sticker on the fan indicates the direction of airflow. So in your case it looks like the fan is blowing AWAY from the heatsink, whereas you want it to push air into your cooler.

So the heat sink is correct? As it looks exactly the same both ways... Checked a few times...
Looking at the curves of the blades it does look like I have it the wrong way.. Will change it now.. Thanks!
My 3G just sold for 350 on eBay :) Already paying off the price of this machine... :)

Is there any chance this is right? I have the 4 case fans plugged into each other onto the two ends of the fan controller. Lastly a Molex connection from the PSU... Seems like it could be right?

hi bud how we doing have you sussed it yet pics looking good, regarding your last pics im not to sure as i used differnet leads that came with my corsair power supply so hopefully someone will corfirm it ok,keep it going looking good.

Thanks for coming by man, My only issues is the fan, and then I'm good to go, I think.. Just gonna put in the graphics card now and hopefully someone can assist me with the fans.. I'll post some pics when I've got the GPU and HDD's in...

I think you're right ;-)

The molex gets the power, so you can just daisy chain these as you are. The 3 pin fan connectors attach to the fan controller for the PWM signal.

Just make sure that you aren't meant to EITHER the 4pin or 3pin, it should say in the manual.

If in doubt, try it with the 3pin by itself, then the 4pin by itself. If neither work, use both :-)

Edit: can you show a couple of close ups of the fan's connections - so we can see the wires coming from each. If there's only one wire coming from the 3pin, it's definately only for PWM :-)

If its the noctua with dual fans, I read in anothe thread they need to be opposite, so that 1 fan is pushing whilst the other is pulling.

Connector from the Noctua.... It came with an adapter to go into a molex, shall I just daisy chain it or should it go somewhere on the motherboard? So far I'm not filling a single fan slot on the motherboard..

These are all the cables that are not allocated yet! All fan cables...

This comes from the fan controller, It confuses me as it is part extended.. Can I daisy chain on both sides like in the next photo?
p1070115.jpg

Daisy chaining on both sides with the PSU on the "more complete side"

These two also come from the fan controller.. I guess they go somewhere on the motherboard, but no idea where!

One more thing, whats the difference between hd audio and ac'97?

whats up with you know dude lol!!! your mob should have at least 3 connections or you can buy splitters to connect more to if i remember right.how the beast did it go in ok

Rick the beast went in perfectly, she's a good fit having side connectors :)

My issues is this: I have no idea where to plug them in.. can't see anywhere.... bain...
p1070123.jpg

ok they are small but as i anit seen you mobo i will hazard a guess look close to mobo they are dotted about 3pins should be 3 sockets and say something like fan.pwr you will need to look close tho torch is good thing to use

thing i saw on in one of your pics above fan top right little white box with 3 pins sticking up whats that say?

if those are from the fan controler surely you would connect 3 pin fans to those male 3 pin connectors to use the control to control said fans...?

could you maybe take the cables coming from one fan, not all of them so i can lookie what what connectors came with the pc case fans?

o bugger i forgot you brought a fan controller didnt ya well i had one a while back check the manual dude it will tell you
cant for the life of me how it went i know all the fans go to control unit but i get misty then lol

the fans should have 3 pin connectors on them, they go into the control male ones you have taken pics of and the the fan controler should draw power from the psu with another/other cables. the heatsink fan should have a 3 pin and somewhere near the heatsink on the mobo somewhere it should say cpu1 or something, this is where you should plug that one in, the rest of the fans, liek i said try and plug as many as you can into that controler with the 3 pin connectors if they have them, failing that as previously said in thread there are the male 3 pin headers on the mobo you just have to look in the manual. if you use the 3 in connectors you shouldnt need to use any of the other fan cables so forget them, but if the fans do not have the 3 and and are molex then i am not sure what you are going to do.. take that picture i asked for i am interested:P

Heh thanks for your input guys...
I did as said and took two fans and connected them to the fan controller fired her up and yes she can change fan speed :) so thankyou. But as you might expect.. I now have 2 of five fans variating, and the other three constant (not sure about the noctua inside)

Two plugged into fan controller: 1 plugged into molex adaptor and daisy chained:
p1070124.jpg

One plugged into fan controller and one not plugged into anything, and wont fit into any fan sockets on the motherboard (trust me iv checked about 15 times)
p1070126.jpg

I'm a little bit stupid... Okay all 5 fans are on... only 2 variate as only 2 are plugged into the fan controller. How can I plug more in... The fan controller is a part of the case, as are the fans.. surely they must allow all 5 to variate?

I guess more importantly is outputting video, as she turns on, she lights up, but nothing comes out of the hdmi channel on the projector (using a DVI to HDMI cable)
