Hi - can you build your muscles to look a certain way rather than what genetics determine? I really like the look of Cam Gigandet - He was the leading role in the movie never back down.
He's taller than at 6ft rather than my 5'8 so I know I could never look exactly like him, but I was wondering could I do certain types of exercises to get as close as I can rather than how I look?
To me he seems very lean and not that much mass - however his chest has quite a bit of mass and its all like lower down rather than wide. Hit lats appear more long and narrow rather than short and wide like mine appear to be developing, I don't like the idea of them short and wide.

That's him.

That's me but i'm a little bigger now but hardly anything - bit more fat maybe too.

You have similiar genetics anyway, you will have a similiar body.

You cannot go against pre-determined genetics. The only thing you'll do by overworking certain muscle groups is cause imbalance and risk injury.

From all your threads, I gather you worry to much about aesthetics and not enough about training progress. It seems every other week we see a new thread. Wok hard, eat right and train sensibly. Start questioning these things when you've made a few months progress.

Ant

Only really worried about aesthetics because I go on holiday in August lol, after that i'm just going to try and pack as much on more than I probably need then atleast that way if i'm too big I can just cut down a lot and get to the right size I want, I find it much harder putting on weight than cutting, i'm getting there though it's just getting used to eating loads always.

Can i just asked what your training programme?

Also how many calories a day and whether you take supplements?

Im just wanting to improve my regeime

I had a funny discussion about one of the instructors at my gym. Asked him what gear he used as its obvious by his proportion imbalances he had been through a few cycles. Can't remember what exactly I said but I said something about not being able to change genetics and the reply I got was...'Change your genetics with steroids' :p made me laugh.

I am not recommending the use of gear to Vegeta merely thought I would share a joke. Do not start a flame war on gear! Keep this thread on track please!:)

I hate my chest - it doesn't look soo small in that pic (compared to rest) but from the side it looks really really bad, my back seems to develop dead easy as do my traps.

Get bigger, cut down to really low bodyfat and you will look very similar looking at your pic.

He looks like he could be on the cover of mens health, which is fine if that is what you work out for. Pumped up chest and a big six pack.

I bet his squat sucks.

:D

I do it purely for looks - which is probably about the same for 99.9% of men? And he looks good - in a non gay way lol. I'm not impressing no girls because I can squat big ha. But I do squats now regardless btw.

Nah sorry mate. I train for myself, not for other people, most of the chaps here will probably say the same.

Everyone starts out the same way, vanity. But generally for the ones who stick at it, make good progress and make it a part of their lives, it grows into something much more than caring how others perceive you.

You said it yourself, you aren't going to impress girls because you can squat big :)

Ant

EDIT: For the record, with a lot of time and effort you'll be able to look similiar to the chap in the pic.

The trap I see people falling into is trying to obtain the bodies of models/actors/bodybuilders. What you need to realise is that the person in question will have trained hard to look their best at the time they are seen on camera/photo etc. Not many people walk round with these bodies everyday.

And airbrushed and a decent photographer, not a camera phone in a badly lit bedroom

Amen x2

Why do you want to look like him? Do you find that aesthetically pleasing? He's not very well proportioned and just looks skinny to me.

Anyway you're of a similar body type, however you will need to lug about some big weights and do some decent HIIT or SS Cardio to shred yourself whilst gaining *some* bulk.

horrible body to aspire to tbh.
agree on the imbalance and streakyness.

many many people that look better (while being the same sort of size) out there.
