Build Problem :(

Hey, finished my build last night after a long battle, turned it on and it was looking well.... but then after around 2-4 mins it turned itself off!

it made it to the bio settings then not long after switched itself off to a flashing light on the mobo; switch on flashing red, reset switch flashing greenish & cmos type button on the back panel flashing greenish too..

Im pretty sure that everything is connected fine as it started up for a while, fans spinning everything..

My spec is below;

Q6600 | 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer |
Asus Maximus Formula SE | Western Digital Raptor 36GB 10000RPM & Seagate 500GB (32mb Cache)
| 8800 GTX | Razer Barracude AC-1 | Ocz GamexStream SLI Ready Silent 700w PSU
 
Hello, so when you push the power button, does the system turn on at all any more? Also, when you went into the bios before hand did you change any settings manually? Or just do auto/default settings etc? Might be worth removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes then putting it back in, and turning on after that.

Double check your power connections also, make sure the 24-pin ATX connector is in, and the 4 / 8 pin cpu connector also. And obviously adequate power to the graphics card.

Might be worthwhile to re-seat everything also, CPU, memory, graphics card...
 
Forgot to mention.. the computer wont swithc on at all now, if i plug cable in/switch power on by psu at back it goes str8 to the flashin lights & then nothing

Fair do's, un-plug the power from the psu, re-seat all power connections, check 24-pin, and 4/8 pin connector to the motherboard as well, remove cmos battery for a few minutes, put it back in, then go from there.

I didnt have the chance to even take a good look at the bios it switched off soon as it got there... so i didnt see anything. i have no idea bout removing the CMOS battery!!

ive tried removing stuff and tryin it, re-seating things.. still nothing!!
 
Could be temperature related then.

Check the cpu heatsink, are you using the stock heatsink fan?
 
Try re-seating that, take the heatsink off, is the themal compound touching the cpu at all? Make sure of that first. Then when re-seating the heatsink make sure it makes contact correctly.

Do you have a spare psu at hand as well? May be worth trying to power up just the cpu / motherboard / ram by themselves to see if they atleast power on.
 
DJProxo - are you reading anything that we are telling you.

Check the ATX connectors as above.

Reset the CMOS.. If you don't know how to do this then consult the motherboard manual. There will be jumper setting on the motherboard.

Take one step at a time.. don't panic. When you have tried what has been suggested, post back so we can eliminate them.

Go through your motherbaord manual carefully, checking everything is in place. It's surpirising the amount of people that don't do this yet it can save a lot heart ache and time long term.

I've Got another psu yeah, only 240w though i think.. its very old!
ive tried the mobo without anything in still does the same!

i havent tried removing the bios battery for a while yet, im guessin its that silver watch battery type thing.. should i try that?

ive checked the atx connectors yeah, my psu has a cpu1 & cpu2 connector for the 8pin (on left of cpu) the 24pin connector is in too.. so are the power sw ect (used Q connector block so i got it right)
 
Well, nothing powering up, at all...ie when your pushing the power button, thing's aren't even twitching.

So i suggest, getting the motherboard/cpu/ram....take out the cmost battery (yes, the watch type one) leave it out for a few mins, put it back in....then turn on the system.

I literally do mean, just the cpu,ram and motherboard. Nothing else...Granted you wont get video due to the lack of a graphics card, but you'll hopefully be able to get things to turn on.

Still nothing, ive read a similair problem and it was a faulty mobo but best check everythin out first!!

tried removing few ram, tried removing all ram, tried with no gfx card sound card ive tried everything!!

Power SW ect looks fine, 24pin & 8pin is in...
tried removin cmos battery for few min... still nothing
 
O.k...Could be faulty cpu or motherboard then.

If you've tried your other psu as well, that kinda rules the psu out...long as your other psu still works obviously :)

Might be worth removing the power switch, and sticking a screwdriver between the two powerswitch pins instead to "short" them...So the system turns on. Just to rule out a faulty power switch.

But as the system turned on initially i doubt theres anything wrong with it.

Do you know anyone with a socket 775 board or anything? Might be worth asking if you could place your cpu in there to see if it powers on.

Sadly though it's looking like a dead mobo =/ Specially as you've tried everything else.

One last you could do, is removing the motherboard from the chassis, and trying the previous things out of the case and on a motherboard box or something (atleast nothing static...ie your carpet floor :P)...This will rule out any shorting issues on the case.

i'll try my other psu first check that out..

i dont get what u mean by that screw driver thing so i best not blow myself up eh? ha haa!! but as you said i doubt its that as it started up!

i dont know anyone with a socket 775 board no :(

i'll try the mobo out of the case and let you know but if non of this works you think its a faulty mobo? (if the psu is fine) lol
 
It is looking like it's a faulty motherboard to be perfectly honest yeah.

By the shorting pin thing, i literally mean placing the screwdriver end in-between the two pins, which are the power-swich ones. It basically acts as a switch itself, it would turn on instantly if it was working. But I wouldn't try if your not feeling confident, as you can short the board if you do the wrong pins.

But try your other psu first on the motherboard when it's both in and out of the case. Then see if you can RMA the board if it still doesen't want to play nicely.
