Hey chaps,

I know you probably hate threads like this but as a layman I have no other choice than to seek all of your expert advice.

So far after reading and reading I have come up with the following build (below).

1. I will be using this build for gaming and 3d art. I'm a games artist by trade so most of my work is real-time (Programs used 3d studio max, photoshop, unrea development kit).
2. My budget is all but maxed out with this build at about £980
3. I don't need an operating system.

My questions are
4. Is this a solid build?
5. Is there anything I can make cheeper or should spend more on?
6. Is the I7 3750k worth the extra 70£?

I know i am asking a lot but any feedback please give me a reason for your choice im keen to learn more.

Thanks for the help in advance. I look forward to seeing your replies.

Paul.

Hey chaps, thanks for the advice.

With the work I do, I need the slightly better driver set you get with Nvidia cards.

Apart from the power supply which i will change how dose everything else look? Is this worth the £980?

Are there any places you would reduce or increase spending?

I really like it, think you've chosen a great spec.

The only thing I'd amend would be the CPU cooler, get a slightly better one if your planning to overclock.

Alpenföhn K2

Phanteks PH-TC14PE

Thermalright Silver Arrow

or a personal fav which should fit over your low profile RAM

Prolimatech Black Genesis add 2x 120/140 LED fans would look superb! :D

Hey, thanks for the heads up with the mobo.

I will not be overclocking super hard until I have learnt a lot more so i am going to stick with that cooler for now.

I don't know if you noticed but i have 16gig of ram in this system. Is going for 4x4gig sticks a good idea?

16 should be fine if you dont want to upgrade to more in the future (using 4x4gb that is). If you do want to upgrade, you could get 2x8Gb, giving you 2 slots free. Can't see the need unless your running RAM intensive apps, to be fair.

Ram has increased in price for some reason. Might be worth waiting to see if it's in Tomorrow's "This Week's deals". Last I looked it was £30 for 2x4GB and now over £40 (it was as low as £20 just before christmas)

That would save you £20

Hard drive prices are expensive so you could go for a smaller drive now and get extra when you need. 500gb seagate would save you £15

You could save cash on the case. Antec 302 is £53 saving you £12

motherboard perhaps the gigabyte z77 d3h, saving you £15

There...almost £65 saved

One last one, are you planning on overclocking this thing straight away? If not then you've got the stock cooler which will be fine, saving £33 extra and you can always upgrade this later.

So, nearly £100 you could save but possibly more expensive in the long run with the hdd

Also, you've been a member since 2008, get posting in the general forums, tv, food, football with opinions etc, boost your total to over 100 posts and you will get free postage. That is worth the effort.

If I was to downgrade my mobo what would I loose going from the Asrock to the gigabyte?

Thanks again for all the replies. Appreciate it.

Personnally I'd go for 2 x 8GB ram as you never know what the future will hold. :)
