Build suggestions

Hey guys, I have been working on a spec for a new machine I'm going to build. Going for air cooling and I have attempted to future proof a bit with it. Below is the list of gear I am toying with at the moment, this is working to a budget of £2,000.

Is there any part selection you would change? and do you think this build will be powerful enough to run 1920x1080@120hz with at least some decent graphic quality or is it not worth getting 120hz and just limiting to 60fps and ramping the quality up.

the cooler is really out of place in a 2k build, would really be expecting a silverarrow/d14/phanteks in there if air cooling or a custom wc or closed loop liquid cooling.

the fins on the ram will interfer with the cooler and you don't need c7, wouldn't see real world advantage to it over c9. you can get 16gb of the new ripjawz c9 for cheaper than the 8gb of c7 ripjawx.

psu wise I'd say the corsair ax850 or if you want 1kw(not needed unless planning tri/quad sli) then the hx1050.

case is personal but I'd say the silverstone raven 2 or 3 or at double the price the fortress 2.

How much is that spec currently? Looks a lot less than £2000 worth? :confused:

Currently its price is £1,813.86 inc VAT for all the parts listed, baring in mind the PCI-E SSD costs £323.

yes those are the 3 I ment, with the noctua and phanteks the fan can rest on the ram if it has fins(tho I think vengence fins are too large, ripjawx/z are ok I believe) not sure about the silver arrow(seen the video reviews for the noctua and phanteks showing that, not seen one for the silver arrow that shows that).

did you read the note at the bottom of the psu store page? it only fits iin a few antec cases.
the retail cpu is only a few pounds more, comes with a cooler and 2yrs extra warranty.

Are there any reasons that you reduced the quality of some of the components (pcie SSD to regular SSD and the mobo?) I also would prefer air cooling (heard too many horror stories about water cooled rigs, don't want to take the plunge until my next machine in a few years time at least).

What are your intentions for the build? If it's just general use and gaming then I don't think you will see a difference in a PCIe SSD over a SATA-6 drive. Better off spending the money on CPU or graphics imo.

Gaming really ...

I don't think theres much better from a gaming perspective than the CPU I have chosen, and the 580 I have chosen is pretty much as far as I want to go with that. No matter when I get the card there will always be a better version of it with better cooling or a completely new model in a few months, so I'll just stick with my card choice.

While I game I would like to record game play as well so I figured the extra performance would help in that quarter.

I've looked at the Antec Kúhler H2O 920 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler, isn't that a little too loud for normal use? I don't want a super loud machine. Can the stock fans be swapped out for more silent ones?

really upto you if you want to throw away £500+ on the graphics card now, there is always something better around the corner but there is a completly new model due out in a couple of months and there wouldn't be another completly new card for a year after that(there will prob be refresh of it in several months but not like going from 5xx series to 6xx series). if you were buying a couple months back then fine but with november almost over its not too long to wait.

and yes you can change the fans on the cooler.

What fans would you recommend on the cooler and what configuration as some have reported better temps just using a pull configuration to exhaust out the rear, and some use the standard push pull set up.
