One comment Linus made that stood out for me when comparing Intel to AMD for gaming, and I think it could be relevant here, is that Intel was better if you only played a game. The minute you add streaming in, the Ryzen was ahead because of the way workloads could be spread across cores.

So question might be whether there is any benefit in additional cores if you're multi-tasking. It's been a long time since I've gone near rendering, which was only ever for fun, but could there be a scenario where you're rendering in the background whilst continuing to model in the foreground?

VM is a nice work around, specially if you've got dual cards and a lot of cores :D

uni days had to log onto 4-5 pcs with q6600 and 8800gtx's to render parts of scenes and edit them today haha

I used to mess around with Terragen back in 2003. I used to record the render time in the file name and even the most basic scene in low resolution would be several hours. That was on an Ati Radeon 7500LE though.

The Air cooler is 2mm too tall for that case according to both cooler & case specs, but you might be lucky fitting it in.

Slight update:

Forked 400 UK mullah on a

Acer Nitro XV273X
27 Inch FHD
Black
IPS Panel
FreeSync (G-Sync compatible)
240 Hz
Response time: 1ms
HDR 400
Ports: DP, HDMI, USB Hub
Height Adjustable Stand

Rainforest UK tags it as: "Acer Nitro XV273Xbmiiprzx"
if you want to search for it.

At first, I was thinking about the 24.5' variant, but the 240hz was only an option listed for the 27' one, so I went with that.

I am also waiting to get the:

ViewSonic Elite XG270QG 27-inch QHD IPS Nano Gaming Monitor with G-Sync for Esports (165HZ, 1ms, 1440p, 98% DCI-P3, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB Type-B, 3x USB Type-A, 2x 2W Speakers)

(not available yet, shipment late February)

but since I don't have a good monitor to use, I'll stick with Nitro for a few months, then get the Viewsonic monitor as a main and Nitro as a secondary.
