Hi all,

After building a shed, I now have the confidence to build a cabinet in the corner of my garage to store the hoover/brooms/etc.

This is what I have in mind:

Can anyone answer the following:

Is a wooden frame necessary? Or can I get away with a few battens on the wall and L brackets inside the cabinet on the wall and floor holding the side panel in place? Or is this not strong enough as the door will be attached to the side panel?

What mdf should I go for? 12/18mm?

I'll be using easy mount hinges.

Any help is appreciated!

I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work if it's not actually going to be supporting any weight on the on top and is more for 'hiding the hoover'.

I'd be looking at something down the bottom to hold the side in place though or you might get 'spread' lower down... maybe make a 'box frame' for a base to sit on which should help with rigidity.

I'd also probably look at using a more 'water proof' material than mdf, I'm thinking a varnished plywood or similar, due to that (garage) door next to it. Even painted MDF doesn't really like getting wet imo.

Thanks for the information!

Yes it's non weight bearing on top but yes a box on the bottom sounds good.

I was thinking water resistant mdf and paint but I'll look at alternatives.
