Basically need a pc built (parts + case) for around £400... just to do the essentials... net/word/msn etc...

. No monitor needed just the base unit
. No fancy pro graphics card, just something that'll do the job ( no games will be played but obviously something will be needed)
. Fairly decent sized harddrive
. at least a 1GB of ram i guess

and im not sure what to do about the OS, i have an old xp key mind off an old pc!

if it goes around £350 thats even better.. just need the part price list etc

can anyone knock up a good part list that is cheap would be greatly appreciated!

This will do you fine:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.20GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
Abit AN-M2 Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair 2GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300C5 Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB)
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe
Antec NSK2400 Desktop Case - 380W SmartPower PSU

Total : £299.50

No GPU since that motherboard has intergrated graphics which will do you fine.
