Hi Ive been reasding it is possible to link a ssd and a hdd together to use as a hybrid drive or sshd. Some sites are suggesting using internal express cards and cable to link ther ssd and hdd together.

Is it possible to just buy as SSD and HDD and just simply create a hybrid and if so how big can the ssd cache be?

If you've got an Intel based board, I know you can do it within their RST raid software. You can make a 64GB cache partition on a SSD to buffer a hard drive or hard drive array. You can even use the rest of the SSD as a normal partition so it doesn't go to waste.
