Building a gaming pc for a friend this is what i have put together, any thoughts?
Anything you would change?

Total comes in at £1523.78 inc VAT
Want to stay around that price but can maybe go a little higher if necessary.

Thanks

The i7 is debatable for gaming, 16GB is deffo overkill and you can get 2x8GB 2133Mhz kits for the same price as that slower quad channel kit you picked.

They have started to drop the price of AMD GPUs now. The 7970 is cheaper close to what 7950s used to cost and the 7950s are cheap enough that I can Xfire for the cost of the single 770 almost.....

Just to give you an idea of what's poss. The Bluray would only really be needed for movies. Even a single 7970 would be good enough would leave cash to up the SSD capacity and storage perhaps.

Thanks for your help. Why not an i7?
I have always had amd builds personally so i know little about intel.

As i said it is for a friend tho and he wants an i7 and nvidia graphics and won't let me change his mind, would it be possible for you to give me a few reasons for the choice if that is not too much bother.

Thanks

Well the i7 has hyperthreading and that doesn't seem to make much odds for gaming. Apparently the i7 does maintain better minimum frame rates with dual GPUs though

The Nvidia 770 is a "Super duper" 680. There are some good deals on the 670s now which are a cutdown 680 but they cut off very little.

This i7K has the H100i bundled with it. The 670 I've used also gives the whole basket free P&P

Sufficed to say that £1500 is a good budget but having more cash opens up more options. I quite like my buddy Idlemans alternative too, he prefers a good air cooler over CLCs and that is a reasonable preference to have. I'd prefer the 330R over the Coolmaster CMII too truth be known.

Hopefully you are getting some ideas of how to balance things out and settle on some parts you like. You can use THIS to post your next basket which you might find easier. I really look forward to seeing what you settle on in the end :)

Some may not like my choice of monitor, but it's what I would buy if it were me. :)

IPS panels aren't ideal for gaming on to be honest. It's a higher resolution but the response rate is also higher (that's bad for gaming). IPS panels have better colours so if the rig was an "all rounder" and was for editing etc above gaming then yes the IPS isn't a bad trade off.

For out and out gaming I'd lean towards a 120Hz+ panel with a low response rate at that price range but each to their own. Always worth pointing out different options and why so the OPs can choose for themselves what suits them best :)

Agree with what your saying, but I expect most gamers could not actually tell the difference between 8ms and 2ms response times. Though I expect many "pro gamers" will claim they can :D

I'd not bother with a 120Hz personally, if you can get a constant 60FPS the results would be more than pleasing for most. 30FPS+ looks pretty good to me anyway.

One thing that's interesting, I had a 2ms low-medium end monitor and changed to a larger better quality 5ms monitor, if anything the 5ms seemed to respond faster and the picture was far better.

I think i am going to go with this build to show him. He hasn't really got a clue tbh and will get whatever i advise.
With SLi i know the second card runs slower but how much increase would i expect him to see? basically is it worth it for these two over one higher model?
