Building a Graphics Design portfolio?

looks much better fixed width! Think the trick will now be to draw the foreground and background together as they're both quite different styles...

Look forward to seeing your progress!

Don't know if you have checked it in IE8 or FF3 Skips but there's an orange border around your logo in both.

FF3:

I use the following css to stop that happening on my site.
(though you might want to make it specifit to that image if you actually want borders showing on other images)

Code:
img {
border : none;
}

Sorted. (Hopefully) :D

Thanks. :cool:

fits the colour palette much better Skippi! Keep going at it, just continually look at it with fresh eyes and work out improvements.

skippi - are you getting work from the site already? If so that's a great start! Well done :)

If you want my input regarding the site itself, be very careful what you showcase in the portfolio, only use the best possible work you have created thus far. Anything that is not the very best quality will merely serve to put off potential clients and ruin your image.

Also IMHO the image viewer you have chosen looks a little clunky and dated. It looks more like a YouTube video than a slick gallery. Take a look at some other designer's portfolios. Simpleviewer seems very popular, looks very classy and well polished. http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/

Remember, your site and portfolio have to look really slick and professional. At the moment, I think you could do a lot better, but it's a decent beginning and I wish you the very best of luck with it.

Setting up a small design company (specialising in logos and stationery) is something I would love to do too, maybe some time in the future. I have been dabbling in it for about 2 years now, I just don't have enough spare time to really go for it.

Thanks a lot for that, man. :D

Will take a look at that image viewer now.

I'm working on a new design for the site already, something a little less generic.

I've got tons of free time atm so it's all good. :D

I've also been asked to design a site for a company. Just waiting on confirmation and a brief. :)

That really is good news. Good on you!

Has that work been generated simply from the site?

Oh and regarding your own site, remember - less is so much more. Keep it simple, clean and distinctive. Try to create a logo that makes you stand out from the crowd. But take it from me, your own logo is the hardest thing to do.

If you need help with anything, give me a shout, although I haven't got a clue about web design, but I have created a fair few logo's in the last couple of years.

Pretty much, yeah. :)

Just trying to implement the image viewer now but can't get it to find the images for some reason. Definately using the correct path.

Oh man, please remove that tilt feature! My eyes, I can't concentrate on the images. :p

Remember, the portfolio will get you the business, make it easy to navigate and stick with the more standard viewer.

EDIT - just another very small niggle, but the green square at the top just doesn't fit the style of the site. It either needs the bevel removed and made smaller, or removed altogether IMO.

Just for fun...

...you can't beat a bit of retro! :D

EDIT - just seen the latest changes on your site. Now how much better, and more slick is that than the previous gallery? Looks really good and it's not quite finished yet. Nice one
