Building a Graphics Design portfolio?

Absolutely. :D

Any particular style or content you want it to have? Email in trust if you want to send the details. :)

Thanks. :)

Awesome thanks skip!

Well as for a bit of background there's 36 of us, the idea is to produce a game which we're refering to as "slot car" (think scaletrix). In terms of style try whatever you like. There's a couple of people working the "graphics" side of the project (mainly looking at 3D models of cars etc) which it might help talking too though.

Thanks again,

You need to stop designing your sites into boxes :) Mice have wheels for a reason, scrolling so don't box everything into 600px high!

Yeah, but scrolling is something I don't like and can be easily avoided.

The best designed sites can be viewed with no scrolling.

Besides, there isn't much content on my site atm anyway that would mean you would have to scroll. :p

Think ahead :p

I've made an enormous (spelling wth :S) error with my website, once I've filled it with content theres nowhere else to go.

Silliest comment I have ever read on here regarding web design.

You might as well design the sites 500px wide so people dont have to move their eyes!

to a point i think he's right. Especially when it comes to a graphics portfolio website. Sure you could make it kind of interesting by the scrolling to be to the side. But at the end of the day its about the impact of the work. Find me a major graphics company where you have to scroll through tons of text. The idea is that its simple and to the point and the the information is easily accessed. Especially in this instance since most people who will be the position to give him a job will probably spend a minute or two looking at it. Needs to be fast and snappy

fast and snappy yes, cramped and boxed in no? I've looked at hundreds, if not more, of graphic/web designers portfolios, amongst other professionals, and I am just trying to give a little bit of advice from what I have seen over a good few years

Like I said before, keep it simple. Clean lines. Less is so much more. It should be all about you and your portfolio, not a boxy, image laden site that will age very quickly.

If I were designing something similar, I would have an intro page with mainly white space, a logo and some clean text only links to a bio page, a portfolio page and a contact page.

Remember, it's all about you and what you can provide your potential clients. The idea is to have them drawn to your previous work, not be bogged down in a graphics heavy site.

And as has been said above, do yourself a favour and remove all but the better quality work.

This site will show you just a snippet of what you are up against. The work on display here is simply stunning... http://tencreatives.com/

Well, here is the final design:

I'll be happy if I can get this all working well.

Not sure on the background. It will most probably change. And a white border around the page too.

Apologies about the loss of sharpness through compression.

So, the site has had quite a few tweaks since my last post in this thread and rather than a whole revamp, I decided to just make what I had better as it was working well and was simple.

It's still not finished though. Things like the header/banner need to be rethought and I have other features to integrate that I have the basic code set up for but not completed yet.
