Okay, long story short. I had a Specialized Rockhopper 2010. Everything was stolen off of it - literally.

Insurance has come through, and i'm getting a 2011 Rockhopper :D

But now i'm left with a perfectly good Specialized RH 2010 Frame. What should I do with it?

How much would it cost me to build a "commuting" bike, with basic components? I'm afraid I don't know that much about components. Any hints as to where I should start?

It's often a lot more expensive than buying the bike new. I would sell the frame and buy a cheap second hand commuter.

If you want second hand bits check out the bike radar classifieds or singletrack world magazine classifieds, bargains to be had.

You should be able to do it quite cheaply second hand, check out bike radar classifieds as said above. I noticed a superb Thomson seatpost and SLX front mech over there earlier :D

If you build up a commuter, leave off the front mech and just whack on a big ring. You also won't need a a front shifter. i've done it on my commuter bike, it's great. Forces you to beast it everywhere (46 tooth up front).

When I get out on my normal mountain bike I fly!!

you could probably build it up quite cheap if you find bits in the sales.
