That you can, but you will need something like MSI's MS-1022 shell, or something like that... which costs around £313.73 Aopen also do a cassis called 1556GL

With this you get the screen, keyboard, and chipset

hi

thanks for your help

i,m sure i have seen some generic ones as well, where can you get these shells from?

i have seen one before but never knew where u can get one from?

thanks

Can't really say as they are a competitor, they are around though but they need a lot of work including buying an extra keyboard to plug in I think. They are useful if you had a load of spare parts ready to drop into a shell but not very cost effective otherwise.

Bugs the hell out of me how costly laptops are. They should make standalone cases and components the same as they do with desktops so we don't have to pay a fortune on the high street or places like Dell *shudder.*

I am after one myself, just something crap I can surf the net and use IM and email on, not really bothered as long as it will run XP and has wireless networking, but even crappy second hand ones are about £300 or not worth buying at all. :o Would be nice if I could build one instead.

Just having a bit of a derail of your thread thats all. :(

Back on topic now!

And make tea :D

Laptops are coming down in price but I would really like to see more customisable ones out now. Surely the technology is not that hard to allow plug and play hardware parts in laptops (I know a few have swappable graphics cards but there isn't a huge range to choose from)

From the quick google I did it seems there is a unnoficial form factor popping up, to be made official in the near future to allow for more upgradeable components.

Can't link, but seems a thermal grading number for the CPU and GPU and then if its higher than the laptops it can not cool it. Good idea but doubt it will come in soon as the news is from this time last year. :(
