Building a net cafe

TBH, I'm suprised you know so little if you've got all that experience. I've never set up any sort of netcafe or public access setup, yet your idea that internet cafes are going to need more than a modern dual core is ludicrous. They aren't going to using 3ds max for crying out loud!
Yeah whatever... I have said it's not about actual power it's about making the most out of the budget. You're obviously not looking at it from a business PoV, there is more to this than the technical side.

As for the Ncomputing stuff, that is very good if you're not running apps that are Graphics intensive. Only Downside is they're limited to USB1.1, probably due to them only having a 10/100 network interface. This might cause a few issues with your webcams etc depends what ones you get and how many other USB devices you connect whether the bandwidth will be sufficient. Other than that a reasonable spec server should be happy. I would recommend Gigabit switching with a gig card in the server (probably stock on motherboard). Neither of which are expensive.

Err... Yes, because I was the one recommending that he spend much more than he need to on hardware that he doesn't need. Oh wait, wrong way round sorry. Silly me.

He's not spending anything, he's being paid and gaining money from it. Whoever is employing him to do this wants the best they can get for their money, if he walks in saying I got you all this for just a smidge over budget they will be impressed. It's not like he'll get to pocket the excess so he might aswell use up all the budget. This is how install projects work, your given 10k you spend 10k cos that's what it's there for. Obviously if he'd been given £300 up front and they weren't expecting change then you'd do it as cheap as you could, probably with those NComputing boxes.

It's irrelevant now as he's decided not to go with Dells anyway so I don't see what the issue is?

The issue is that what you were recommending was more than the budget and complete overkill for the needs of an internet cafe.

Oh noes.... It's his decision what he does, I offered an alternative to what had already been said, when questioned I gave the reasoning. Whether he likes the idea or not is his gig. Makes no odds to me.
Do you win a prize or something if he chooses your idea (which he didn't)? No, chill. You got further Beef with it PM cos you're messing up the thread with unhelpful point scoring now.
I expect better of a skoda felicia owner.

We don't have PMs here. I'd argue that this thread has been messed up ever since you started filling it with ridiculous recommendations for needlessly expensive hardware and illogical reasons.

You're right it's his decision and there is no prize, only the good feeling of being helpful, which is more than you've been. Seriously, you've yet to show any of this so called experience that you have, and every new post you make in here just seems to be filler material with needless babble.

My beef is that you were recommending an alternative that was out of his budget, unnecessary for his needs and when asked to explain you spouted some nonsense about an 800Mhz FSB "hurting the upgrade path". That's being unhelpful and doesn't show any of this so called experience.

:o

P.S. The car I own has nothing to do with you being unhelpful on here.

All of which is your opinion and not of consequence to me or anyone else really. It's up to the OP to decide if what I've said is useful or not, not you.

The car reference was aimed at you seemingly not needing to compensate for lack of genitalia, but it seems I was wrong :) Go wave your E peen elsewhere. I really don't the have time for it.

Wow, you 2 certainly managed to trash this thread... Well done, have a FAIL cookie, there on special offer this week at ITakeThreadsCompletelyOffTopic.com
