Hey, im curious as to what AMD processor is best for overclocking (best results) at the moment? From what ive read its the 5000+ black edition? Im also in search of a motherboard suitable for overclocking, ive been looking at the asus workstation board but this is pretty expensive, what would you recommend? Oh and what is the point in getting memory faster than ddr2 800....as motherboards from what i see do not use faster memory than that.

Thank you for you time and for the great guides on this forum :) XD

If you are clocking it will cost less for the same performance. For a little while now Intel have been a no-brainer choice if you are going to overclock.

The cheapest intel chips match the cheapest AMD chips but the boards can be a bit more expensive. 100% overclocks are not uncommen for the lower end intel core2duo chips.

Why not list your requirements in a new spec-me thread and get the advice of the forum?

a quote "At 3.7 GHz frequency the processor preserved the ability to pass tests. This example clearly demonstrates, that the 10x multiplier in combination with the moderately high overclock limit on the system bus allow to overclock rather well Pentium e2xxx processors series ."

Yeah but at 1.67V!! You'll need a VERY good cooling, we're talking about water cooling at the very least. I wouldn't put over 1.55V under a very decent air cooler.

Therefore as said expect 3.2Ghz

I have an e4300 which uses the same core but has more cache enabled. With my crappy sonic tower and a 7v sharkoon silent eagle 1000 it sits very happily at 2.8Ghz with a 0.0125 voltage increase.

The cheap intel chips really are the way to go right now if you're on a budget. A cheap arctic cooler 7 will do you fine for a great overclock. Stock cooler will too but I hate the noise too much to reccomend that.

If you want to be fashionable or brand-loyal stay with AMD. If you want serious budget and don't need the performance go AMD. If you're clocking and you want bang for buck come intel and buy an E2180 and an arctic cooler 7 pro.

ok im gonna go with intel, then give the new amd quad processor a couple of months to settle down in price then sell it ang get that hehe. Anyways what motherboard is reasonably priced and good for overclocking for intel chips?
