Building a new rig. Input/opinions?

I recently decided that I wanted to upgrade my current rig, and after a while I thought it'd be best to just start from scratch again and sell my current one afterwards to a friend.

My current build is:

AMD Athlon II x4 635 @ 2.9GHz
4GB RAM
I am unsure of the exact motherboard model, but it was a fairly cheap gigabyte motherboard.
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024Mb ddr3
500GB Samsung HDD
Generic 750W PSU, probably about to die if I'm honest.

Here is my new proposed build:

^Ignore the USB Flash drive, that's irrelevant.^

My questions really are, is it worth upgrading from my current Athlon II to th Phenom II? Is there any way I can bump the price down from what it's currently at?

I'm also open to any case suggestions, I like the DF35, but I would like red LED's rather than the blue that the case comes with.

A Samsung F3 is as faster but cheaper than a WD Black - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-081-SA&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=940

This Antec PSU is more powerful and has more PCI-E connectors (2X 6pin and 2X6+2pin) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088

I think you should use your Athlon and wait for bulldozer in Spetember.

Spending £30 on fans? really?

id wait it out, things you should probably buy now are :
cooler
new psu
case
ssd

and if you want to go nuts and spend £30 on case fans, why not just buy a case with great cooling.
your sepdning £120 on a case and 3 fans, with that you could but a silverstone raven and you wont need to buy any mor efans :)

Wow, thanks for the fast feedback guys, wasn't expecting this much of a response, and yes spending £30 on fans was a last resort if I couldn't find a better case. But I'm loving the one you posted stulid, the red interior is awesome.

I think I'll keep my current processor and wait for the bulldozer in September then, hopefully it'll make my build a little more futureproof.

@chrisarm, thanks for the comparative build, I might just have to swap some of those parts for the ones listed :D

I'd like to use watercooling throughout my whole system, but I haven't a clue how to set it up, and I wouldn't want to risk wrecking a £6/700 build by installing it wrongly. I also hear that if the water gets too warm, then it can be a pain to get the temperatures back down which might be a problem as my room is always pretty warm.

However, seeing that it is just an apply and go with that watercooler, then I may be tempted to give it a go. Is there a noticeable difference in temperatures with watercooling? As opposed to my proposed Zalman CPU cooler?

I watched the videos and looked up the installation guide, it does seem pretty straightforward, I may go for it over the regular air cooler due to the weight as mentioned in the second video, I presume the 120mm fan on the radiator can be changed too if need be, which is always a plus.

As Jony said, the 620 seems like a massive amount quieter than my stock cpu cooler which is pretty interfering. All in all, I think I will invest in the kuhler kit, it will add variety looks wise and might give me an insight to eventually go custom watercooled in time.

Thanks again guys, I feel like an ass for sitting back and letting you do all the work though, I can't thank you enough.

But now I've got another dilemma involving RAM, should I go with my listed G.Skill 8GB 1333MHz or use Chrisarm's suggested Kingston 8GB 1600MHz?

Yeah, the colour scheme would look better with the red, but is there any significant difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz?
The 1600MHz version of the G.Skill set is the exact same price xD.

1333MHz
1600MHz

EDIT: Just noticed I think the 1600MHz set are more suited to Intel boards.

1600Mhz is what you want in this case, its the most common speed/future proof.

I an sure I read that bulldozer memory controller natively supports 1600

I didn't even notice you'd updated your previous post with the 1600MHz Ripjaw :P Well, I think I've got my build planned out now, more powerful and £100 cheaper than previously. Just need to gather £660 then when September rolls round, get myself a bulldozer cpu :D

Thanks for all the help guys, without you all I'd have been £100 down :P

I thought it was ivy bridge that was 1866.

Edit, so it is, ivy bridge is 2133 mhz or something
