I am going to be building my first gaming rig but I have no clue what parts to buy. I am going to be spending around £250 - £350 on this project.

I would like to ask you what you recommend me to buy, what parts and how much they will be and such as I'm unsure about this. I would like it to run Day Z comfortably and Skyrim on about medium settings.

Thanks in advance!

You most likely better off with something like this unless you can add an extra £150-200 to your budget:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Plextor M5 Pro 128GB Extreme Series Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5P) £99.95
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £95.99
1 x Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H AMD A85X Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 micro ATX Motherboard £61.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40
1 x NZXT Source 210 Elite Midi Tower Case - Black £39.98
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TXD38G2133HC11DC01) £39.95
Total : £391.96 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Do you have anything you can re-use to reduce the cost?

I have been recommended these builds too:

1GB XFX Radeon HD 7770
Intel Pentium G850, Socket 1155, Dual Core, 2.90GHz
LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x DVD±R
Fractal Design Core 1000
500W Storm Silent LPJ19-25
MSI H61M-P31 (G3) Motherboard
4GB Corsair Value DDR3 PC3-10600 (1333)
500GB Seagate ST500DM002 Barracuda SATA 6Gb/s, 7200rpm

AND

Casecom case -- £11
Asus 760G mATX motherboard -- £36
AMD Athlon II X3 450 -- £42
Zotac GTX650 Ti -- £113
Corsair 430 watt power supply -- £38
Kingston 4GB RAM -- £19
Seagate 1TB hard drive -- £53
LiteOn DVD drive -- £13

Which out of all 3 do you think will be the most efficient?

I think you'll be better off with the AMD Trinity build!!

Someone else may provide assistance with this also.

I plan to keep upgrading this over the next year or so, with these parts what's the most RAM and highest GPU I could put in to this rig? Thanks.

RAM would be limited to 16/32Gb and GPU doesn't matter. I'll try an i3 spec, see what you think:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £89.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x XFX Pro Series 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £69.98
1 x **B Grade** Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) £46.99
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £35.99
1 x BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black £29.99
1 x Samsung SH-118AB/BEBE SATA 18x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £382.02 (includes shipping : £11.75).

You could use the on-board untill you can afford to get something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795F3G2M) £220
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
Total : £381.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I'm liking the look of your first rig more because it has a GPU and that's what I feel I need most for my gaming rig. I am going to see if I can extend my budget. I think I can knock it up to £400.

Any difference with the extra £50?

For the AMD build no!

If you can go for the i3 and get a second hand 7850/7870 or Nvidia 460 for about £50, they would give you a decent gaming rig untill you can pump more cash into it.

Added a CPU Cooler to the spec:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £89.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99

1 x **B Grade** Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) £46.99
1 x BeQuiet Dark Rock 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £45.98
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £35.99
1 x BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black £29.99
1 x Samsung SH-118AB/BEBE SATA 18x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £428.00 (includes shipping : £11.75).

The i3 has a IGP, but it's not as good as the AMD version. If you can wait 4-5 months and save up more cash, you could go for the new Haswell. Budget of £550-600 should get you a real nice rig!

You could add a 500gb:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Plextor M5 Pro 128GB Extreme Series Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5P) £99.95
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £95.99
1 x Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H AMD A85X Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 micro ATX Motherboard £61.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G186C9K) £41.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40
1 x NZXT Source 210 Elite Midi Tower Case - Black £39.98
1 x **B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-252-SE) £33.5
Total : £427.50 (includes shipping : £11.75).

or add a 1tb:

1 x NZXT Source 210 Elite Midi Tower Case - Black £39.98

The SSD would be for your OS, it would make a massive difference to everyday tasks and loading games if you choose to install it on the SSD.
