Okay, i wont lie, i'm a bit of a PC building n00b :P Anyway, i'm gonna be building a new PC with a budget of around £1000 so i was hoping you guys could help me with basically telling me what's the best stuff i can get for my money :) This is most likely going to include a monitor and a case as well as all the usual hardware. Thanks in advance :D

Welcome,

to help you it would be handy to know what you are going to use the PC for.

Is it for General use, Gaming or specialist programs? This will depend on some items that will be in your PC.
Are you going to be overclocking? Do you want it set up to be overclocked in the future?

You can get a good dell 22" LED monitor for around £160. Thats a good starting point.

I can help you a lot more after i have you're answers. :)

Awesome :)

Urm it's going to me mainly for gaming so ideally i'd like to be able to play games at the highest graphics levels and it will still run smoothly, right now i have to have a lot of the graphics set to low or off as it makes the game lagg a lot.

My earlier statement of me being a n00b was true haha --> I only have a very vague idea of what overclocking actually is/how it benefits me so i'm not entirely sure on that but i would say set up to be overclocked in the future so that i can do it if i want to.

And cool i'll have a look at monitors :D

Thanks for your reply :)

Anytime,

I would have a look around for these bits, its a vague spec; it will be helpful to do a bit of reading on the products; reviews mainly. i will help you were i can.

The Vague Spec:

i5 2500k (CPU) ~£170
a Z68 Chipset ~£90-£110 (gigabyte do a good one)
GPU; GTX560ti ~ £170 or 6950 2GB ~ £200
Power Supply; 550W - 650W PSU ~£40 - £60
22" LED Monitor ~ £160 (dell do a good model i think).
Case; (this is personal choice) Some good models are Antec 300, Cm 690II and Bitfenix Shinobi. ~ £40 - £60
8GB RAM; DDR3 1600Mhz ~ £40
HDD's (price have gone a bit mad recently, just have a look around) Anything that has a enough space will do you fine for now.
If you are going to be Overclocking in the future you will need an after marker CPU cooler. The Corsair A50 is a good one ~ £25
Optical drive ~£15

Total (minus HDD) ~ £840

The Z68 chipset and the (k) series processor allows overclockability in the future. as will the after market cooler. A 6950 or GTX 560ti will run any modern game on high settings. The i5 2500K is the best price/performance CPU on the market at the moment.

Have a gander, I hope this helps.
