Not build a PC in 7-8 years when I was last at college and then the tutor brought everything, so I need some help.

Picked out my case, but struggling with what PSU I need...any advice? Looked through the new build guide but just need PSU advice

Also, looking at MoBos, what is the best type:

AM2+
AM3
Atom
Skt 1155
Skt 1156
Skt 1366
Skt 775
Skt A

What PSU you need depends on what's going into your system. Graphics cards, for example, vary tremendously in their power requirements.

What motherboard you need depends on which processor you're going for. If you don't know what to get you'll need to post details of what you want the PC to do, and a budget, then someone can give you an idea of what to get.

What I need:

I need the PC to be FAST :)
I will be using it to design graphics so graphics card needs to be good
I will also be using it for a bit of FPS gaming
Will also need some storeage space.
I also want a good looking case, dont want a boring looking thing sat there :-)

Budget £400 - £600

Is that budget just for the base unit or do you need monitor, mouse, keyboard, operating system and speakers?

I have a new Keyboard, new mouse, OS is being purchased and I have speakers and 2 spare TFTs, so obviously I need the PC to have dual graphics :-)

AM2+ - old
AM3 - about to be replaced with AM3+
Atom - don't bother
Skt 1155 - replaced 1556 this year
Skt 1156 - old, good on a budget though
Skt 1366 - going to be replaced in the 2nd half of this year with 2011
Skt 775 - old
Skt A - retro :p

Should give you a rough idea about each socket. :D

EDIT: If you go for the £600 budget you can unlock the locked parts of the GPU die with a BIOS flash on the 6950 to full 6970 performance.
