Building a PC - some help please..?

Hi guys,

Since I've poured a glass of water over my last desktop computer, I'm now looking to get a new one.

I want to make something that will easily allow me to play most games at decent resolutions over the next 5 years.. but not spend too much..

I'd also prefer to stick with Intel and Nvidia due to problems I've had in the past with AMD and the like.

Therefore, I've done a bit of research and knocked this together on A competitor site, a bit more than I want to spend.

Can you recommend any way that I can save a bit of money? But without compremising on performance? I'm a regular gamer but I guess I'm not really hard-core!

Processor - i5 - 4670K
Cooling - Cooler Master Seidon 120M Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator
motherboard - GIGABYTE Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 Chipset, ATX Mainboard w/ 4 RAM slots, 7.1 HD Audio, HDMI, GbLAN, USB 3.0, SATA-III, 1x Gen2 PCIe x16, 1x Gen2 PCIe x4, 2x PCIe x 1 & 2x PCI
RAM - 8GB
Graphics card - Nvidia GTX 770
Power - 700W
1TB hard drive
Windows 8.1
Sound card (the onboard sound on my last PC was crap - Creative Labs SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-BIT PCI-E Sound Card

Is any of this over the top? I don't fancy doing any overclocking and I'm happy to save a bit of cash if my experience won't change much.

Thanks! Any help would be great!

Dave

you dont need a 700w PSU for that card, neither do you need liquid cooling !
because you can get perfect cooling by simply choosing the right case and customising the interior.

you can use my cooler or get a Megahalems, it doesn't really matter, just read the reviews, my lot is lapped so it's very cold, but i dont recommend you do this or you can ruin the Chip, but it kills the temps quite a lot.

so building your own pc is easy but you need to research quite a lot, it wont be cheap, because you'll probably end up wanting the best stuff..it'll end up at about £1000.

5 years? no it wont last that long, maybe 4 at best, mine will need upgrading next year or when i decide to buy the OLED tv. (i've had mine 2 years already)

my weak link is the ASrock MOBO, I dont recommend it, you're better off with the MSI/Gigabite, but i'll keep mine for now until i'm ready for a total rebuild

edit being fussy..

Have you tried the systems here on OCUK rather than quoting prices from the competitor?

Overclockers do system with similar spec for about same price.

agree with the powersupply being a bit OTT, can prob bring that down to a 500w.

sound card might not be needed depending on mobo selection or if you have a usb headset ;)

can some things be used from your old pc like HDDs? as I would say you're missing an SSD from your list sir!

Yes, sorry, I wasn't necessarily going to buy from Cyberpower, I just used thier website to get the parts written down!

This might sound stupid, but what's the big advantage of a SSD? I've never had one before..

it has loads of space on it, plus it has a faster data loading rate for gaming

this, maybe not so much the space depending on what size you buy but you will load into windows and games a HELL of a lot faster!!

I started with a 64gb for my OS and a 128GB for games, now used a 128GB for my OS and typical windows programs and have a 256GB purely for games xD super fast! usually first one to spawn in bf4 ;) get my pick of the vehicles hehe :D

but depending on what you use/install you could probably make do with a 128GB SSD for OS and a few games, just manage what you want to load fast, put on SSD... everything else... bung on the mechanical ;)

Hmm.. certainly worth considering.. I might do that then (especially if it's waterproof) - thanks guys!

Would it be a good idea for me to cut down a bit on the processor or graphics card? Or would I be losing out by a fair bit if I did?

Thanks again for all the help.

AMD gfx cards represent better value for money if you do want to cut the price down a bit. I've always had Nvidia, but have to admit I am tempted to go AMD on my next build.

I'd just go for a cheap air cooler, unless you plan to clock it very high. Not sure about the modern CPUs, but my Q6600 is clocked to 3.2 from 2.4 and my cpu fan never goes above 700rpm. No need for water with a sensible clock imo.

(especially if it's waterproof)

i hope you know the guy was trolling :p pretty sure if ya dumped it in water it would **** up :p

as for cutting costs more.... depends what ya planning to play really and how important eye candy is to you ;) also possibly considered getting some bits second hand as you can pick up some tasty bargains in the members market :) CPU wise i think you should stick with that i5, maybe save a bit not getting the "K" model if you're not planing on overclocking?. gfx, could possibly drop to a 760 or i think i saw a 750ti being released? might be worth looking at benches from that as it may be similar performance or better bang for buck :)

Great - so cheaper cooling and a lower power supply, as well as doing it myself, should save a bit, which I can then use for a SSD drive.

Had looked at a couple of reviews of the 750ti, but they weren't amazing. Still, I always find it hard to know how much of a difference it would really make..

Oh, and don't worry, if I do get a SSD I'll still be keeping it well away from any water...

A 770 will play any game at 1080 at a reasonable frame rate, I would recommend a SSD and if your going to buy that cooling system and psu then you need to be overclocking the processor and the gpu

Guys,

Isnt this in the wrong seciont, and also mentioning a competitor.

Op sorry dont want to be rude, but you really need to read the rules on here.

Its an A1 community and the guys on here will help you put together a decent system for probably less, but you need to read the rules and also post in the right forum section.

:)

Don't buy one of the OcUK systems, the last one I compared to a self build was almost £300 more. (Built - £900 Parts - £600)

You shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to build it for you if you really don't want to. But it's not hard too do.
