Building a PC

Easy-Peasy nowadays.

Firstly, TAKE YOUR TIME.

Usual culprits for first timers are making sure you use the correct stand-offs when fixing the motherboard to the case (i.e don't bolt the motherboard directly to the case), don't forget to use either the TIM (thermal interface material) that comes on the heatsink or clean off and replace with something similar, make sure the front panel connectors (power, reset etc) are plugged in correctly, if the GPU requires additional power plug it in and don't forget the 12v motherboard connector. The RAM will only go in one way, check the locating lug-hole on the connector side of the modules

Most things only go in one slot. It's difficult to get it wrong :D

Good luck with it. Come back if it all goes horribly wrong.

Thanks man :D The only thing I'm scared of is breaking something :S

You'd have to be quite brutish to break something.

Like said above, make sure the motherboard isn't shorting on the case (use stand-offs) make sure you are lighthanded when installing the CPU..

Make sure if you have an aftermarket cooler you read the instructions, some of them can be quite complex to install..

The hardest bit is getting the order right..

I had to re-build my rig twice when getting a new case, as i hadn't managed my cables before installing the motherboard tray (the tray on my case is detatable and assemblyewd with the motherboard seperatly) so i had to take it out to get my cables looking pretty. :)

Just take your time.. If you are usure on anything specific, check websites, video or just ask us.. :D

Worst possible thing that could happen would be with an intel build - bending any cpu pins , everything is one-way fitting tbh... even power switch , reset ect says on the mb were to fasten and if you really struggle ,well..... you get a manual :p

yeah, DO NOT overtighten the mobo screws, just use forefinger and thumb tightness on the screwdriver.
Depending on the size of your case, you could install the cpu and ram onto the mobo BEFORE putting the mobo into the case. IF you do this, rest the mobo on some protective and softish material to avoid damaging the solder contacts underneath.

The hardest bit about building your own pc is getting the back shield inserted into the case. Thats a pain in the ass!
