Building a studio in the garden

I've nearly finished landscaping my garden and currently have two options where I can put a decent outhouse/glorified shed in the garden to house a desk and an electric drumkit. Naturally I'm planning to run electricity to it and probably a gigabit line but no water/gas etc.

Ideally I'd like to buy something flatpack then build myself. I've not done much research on existing products yet but wanted to see if anyone had done something similar and what you used (and any pics if you have some?).

I really like the Eco here: http://www.thestablecompany.com/garden-rooms/the-eco but that is about 15x greater than my budget! :D

As cheap as possible up to about £1k. i'm not overly bothered about laminate flooring, expensive door and windows and all that jazz. Just a basic shell with insulated walls, weatherproof, secure enough as I don't have to worry too much about the contents.

I did think that modifying a shed would probably be the best way...

Think you'll struggle for that price really except for a Summer house but then it's not insulated, and you'll lose a lot of space by doing that and probably won't be great.

Just to tease you...

Looks nice but price

Thankfully with an electric kit I don't have to worry about soundproofing too much. :D But I do like that a lot...

I've bought a metal shed of these guys and it's great, fun to build too :D Woods would probably be best in your case as you said.

Thanks for that link, will have a browse!

Measured up, I have space for a 5'x10' next to my house.

And space for a 7'x8' at the end of the garden.

I'd like the studio by the house, but struggling to find anything pre-fab that is 5ft wide. Most start at 2m min.

If you have reasonable DIY skills it shouldn't be too difficult to find a 6 x 10 pent roof and cut it down to size.

Problem is, by the time you've added a decent amount of acoustic insulation to keep the noise down you'll not have much more than 4 feet of width internally. Is that going to be enough?

Another thought I just had is the possibility of taking it with me to the next place I move to, as realistically I'm only going to be in my current house for another year, maybe less. It would be great if I could easily dismantle and move it...

I've got to work with the space I have, as I mentioned acoustics isn't really a problem as the drums don't make an awful lot of noise (they're electric).

*I'm dribbling all over Tiger sheds at the moment.

**Infact I've just ordered a 10x5 Shiplap Lean To Pent (and a Value Overlap Apex 8x6).

£1000 for a fully insulated and waterproof room in your garden???????? it's never going to happen.

why cant you have your studio inside your home? that's the cheapest way to do it. the second cheapest would be to convert a garage into basically another room in the house by building a wooden frame inside it then insulating within that frame then boarding over it. the third cheapest would be building an extension.

bare in mind with the above way of doing it your adding value to the home which you get back when you sell the house on, plus a bit more usually. whereas building a shed adds pretty much nothing unless it's something spectacular which it won't be for £1000.

there is no way it's going to be watertight, secure and insulated for £1000 unless you get all the materials for free.
